\n Have ancient ruins spoiled modern dating?<\/p>\n

\u201cThe second I see a guy in front of a mountain, I think, \u2018Oh wait, is this Machu Picchu?\u201d Jessi Sherrell, a Dallas, Texas-based wedding photographer, told The Post of scrolling through dating profiles on her phone. \u201cAll it takes is to look down and see the little ruins behind him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sherrell, 36, has been wading through profiles on Bumble, Hinge and Tinder for the past four years, and takes screenshots whenever she spots a dude in front of the 15th-century Peruvian city that sees 2 million visitors each year during normal times, according to the country\u2019s tourism commission.<\/p>\n

Guys will often pose with a llama \u2014 the creatures roam freely around the ruins \u2014 or in local garb, she notes. \u201cThey might look really serious like, \u2018It took a long time to get here,\u2019 or they\u2019ll be dressed up in Peruvian scarves to say, \u2018I\u2019m authentically here.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

Travel<\/a> pictures are a mainstay of dating profiles \u2014 waterfalls and zip lines especially seem to telegraph an adventurous spirit and zest for life. But Machu Picchu is particularly popular among men in their 20s and 30s. Outfitted in baseball caps and oversize rucksacks, they tend to stand at the same spot: 7,000 feet above sea level, at the end of the Inca trail, where stone buildings and sacred temples serve as a backdrop, hundreds of miles away from the cities where singles swipe.<\/p>\n

The message: I\u2019m fit enough to climb thousands of steps and also a little wild \u2014 no run-of-the-mill European city for me!<\/p>\n

\u201cI probably have 30 screenshots but I\u2019ve seen at least 60 or 70 dudes,\u201d Sherrell said.<\/p>\n

Guys who\u2019ve used Machu Picchu photos on their dating profiles say it\u2019s the perfect conversation starter.<\/p>\n

\u201cMachu Picchu was one of my favorite places I\u2019ve ever been,\u201d said Ben Zucker, 28, a Machu man who uses a picture from a 2013 trip to Peru on the Hinge dating app<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He spent two nights at the \u201cmagical\u201d site with his family during a 10-day trip that also included Argentina.<\/p>\n

\u201cI like talking about it and I thought I should put it on my profile,\u201d said the producer, who works for a virtual reality company in LA.<\/p>\n

He said he also chose more recent shots where you can clearly see his face, in addition to the throwback shot of his trip. \u201cIt\u2019s the oldest picture by far, but shows that I like to travel,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

And he\u2019s often swiped on women who\u2019ve likewise visited the mountainous region. \u201cIt\u2019s a fun thing to see if other people have been there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ron Mizrahi, 25, spent six months exploring Central and South America, including stints in Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico and Peru after completing his service in the Israeli army.<\/p>\n

His dating profile pic shows him squatting on a stone ledge in front of the mountain-nestled village.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hiked the Inca trail. It was crazy and there were a lot of stairs,\u201d said the LA-based singleton who works for a AAA-type company. \u201cMachu Picchu is a good view! And people will see it and know that I love adventures.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sherrell is also a traveler, but says she deleted her photos lounging in St. John\u2019s and Hawaii because she \u201ddidn\u2019t want to seem like I wasn\u2019t down to earth.\u201d<\/p>\n

She\u2019s even dated a few Machu men over the years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey definitely want to go to drinks and they usually split the bill,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The latter is not because they\u2019re strapped for cash \u2014 \u201cthey usually do pretty okay for themselves\u201d \u2014 but to show that they\u2019re \u201ccool and progressive,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Still, she dismissed the expedition \u2014 usually booked through a travel agency and featuring a local guide \u2014 as a \u201cwhite-guy adventure.\u201d<\/p>\n

But since dating in the pandemic has been \u201cdismal lately,\u201d Sherrell admitted she may have to stop being so picky.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe I should give the Machu Picchu guys a chance,\u201d she said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
