Executive board member Clare Bronfman, 31, was sentenced to 81 months in prison for her involvement with the group, nearly two years longer than what prospectors requested.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;[Bronfman] never took accountability \u2014 in fact, she actually thanked her \u2018fans\u2019 in court,&#8221; Los Angeles criminal defense attorney Silva Megerditchian told <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/entertainment\/nxivm-allison-mack-worried-clare-bronfman-heiress-sentence-sex-cult-174231590.html\">Yahoo Entertainment<\/a><\/em>. &#8220;These actions are not looked at kindly by a judge who listened to victims talk about the harm Bronfman caused them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, five other defendants are awaiting sentencing, including NXIVM leader Keith Rainere and <em>Smallville<\/em> alum Allison Mack, both of whom were allegedly involved in the sex slavery cult. \u201cThese other defendants should note the judge is taking the victims\u2019 accounts seriously and believes their lives were ruined because of the actions of NXIVM and their supporters,\u201d Megerditchian added.<\/p>\n<p>Read on for the status of Raniere, Mack, Bronfman, and the other NXIVM defendants viewers of <em>The Vow<\/em> are getting to know.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Keith_Raniere\"><\/span>Keith Raniere<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"NXIVM leader Keith Raniere found guilty on all sex-cult charges\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Sozl7khHw0s?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Keith Raniere \u2014 the co-founder and \u201cVanguard\u201d leader of NXIVM \u2014 was convicted in June 2019 of multiple charges, including sex trafficking, forced labor, and wire fraud conspiracy, as well as racketeering charges that included underlying acts of possessing child pornography, child exploitation, identity theft, and money laundering, per the <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.timesunion.com\/news\/article\/NXIVM-leader-Keith-Raniere-to-be-sentenced-on-15484038.php\">Times Union<\/a><\/em>. His sentencing is set for October 27.<\/p>\n<p>Raniere \u201cbelieves he will be vindicated,\u201d one of his lawyers told <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/08\/28\/nyregion\/nxivm-keith-raniere-sentence.html\">The New York Times<\/a><\/em>, but federal prosecutors are asking for him to be sentenced to life in prison. \u201cRaniere wreaked a path of destruction through his victims\u2019 lives,\u201d they wrote in a sentencing memo filed with the court in August. \u201c[He] concealed his abuse behind the smokescreen of his supposed \u2018personal growth\u2019 programs\u2014a charade he continues to this day.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Nancy_Salzman\"><\/span>Nancy Salzman<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Nancy Salzman, the co-founder of NXIVM known to members as \u201cPrefect,\u201d pleaded guilty to a charge of racketeering conspiracy in March 2019 but has not yet been sentenced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want you to know I am pleading guilty because I am, in fact, guilty,\u201d she said in court at the time, per the <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/03\/13\/nxivm-co-founder-nancy-salzman-pleads-guilty-in-sex-cult-case\/\">New York Post<\/a><\/em>. \u201cI accept that some of the things I did were not just wrong, but sometimes criminal. News<\/a><\/em>. She\u2019s awaiting sentencing and facing a reported maximum of 40 years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough it all, I believed Keith Raniere\u2019s intentions were to help people,\u201d she said in court, per <em>E!<\/em>. \u201cI was wrong. \u2026 I must take full responsibility for my conduct and that is why I am pleading guilty today. I am and will be a better person as a result of this.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Lauren_Salzman\"><\/span>Lauren Salzman<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Lauren Salzman, Nancy\u2019s daughter, is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to conspiracy charges in March 2019, according to <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/lauren-salzman-implicated-nxivm-sex-slave-case-quietly-pleads-guilty-2019-03-29\/\">CBS News<\/a><\/em>. Court documents revealed that she admitted to keeping a Jane Doe in a room between March 2010 and April 2012 and threatened to deport her back to Mexico if she did not complete the labor Lauren and others requested, per the <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/04\/01\/nxivm-member-admits-to-enslaving-woman-in-a-locked-room-for-2-years\/\">New York Post<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2019, Lauren testified in federal court that she helped hide Rainere in a suite in Mexico as police arrived to arrest him. \u201cIt never occurred to me that I would choose Keith, and Keith would choose Keith,\u201d Salzman said of that moment, per <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeednews.com\/article\/michaelblackmon\/keith-raniere-closet-arrest-mexico-lauren-salzman\">BuzzFeed News<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Clare_Bronfman\"><\/span>Clare Bronfman<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Clare Bronfman Sentenced To 81 Months In NXIVM Case\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uxlYS5j_vLQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Clare Bronfman, an heiress to the Seagram liquor fortune, was sentenced to nearly seven years in prison on September 30 after pleading guilty to conspiracy to conceal and harbor people who were not in the U.S. legally for financial gain, as well as fraudulent use of identification, according to <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2020\/09\/30\/us\/bronfman-nxivm-sentenced\/index.html\">CNN<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDefendant Bronfman twisted our immigration system to serve a reprehensible agenda, and engaged in flagrant fraud to the detriment of her victims and in the service of a corrupt endeavor,\u201d Seth D.
