airline navigates the \u201cworst crisis\u201d facing the industry.<\/p>\n<p> BA owner International Consolidated Group<br \/>\n        IAG,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/208070069\/delayed\" class=\"negative\">-1.69%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       announced the change on Monday as part of a wider <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/otp.tools.investis.com\/clients\/uk\/international_airlines_group\/rns\/regulatory-story.aspx?cid=2457&amp;newsid=1421482\" class=\"icon none\">shake-up<\/a> of management positions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       Sean Doyle, the chief executive of Irish carrier Aer Lingus,<br \/>\nwhich is also owned by IAG, will take over from Cruz.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re navigating the worst crisis faced in our industry and I\u2019m confident these internal promotions will ensure IAG is well placed to emerge in a strong position,\u201d said IAG Chief Executive Luis Gallego.<\/p>\n<p>Gallego, who took over as head of IAG in September, replacing longstanding boss Willie Walsh, thanked Cruz for working \u201ctirelessly\u201d to modernize the airline and leading it through a \u201cparticularly demanding period.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Doyle takes over at an unprecedented time for airlines, which are struggling to cope amid a collapse in demand for <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" measures to reduce costs, including axing 13,000 jobs and retiring its entire fleet of all of its iconic Boeing 747s. It has also auctioned off artwork to ease its coronavirus cash crunch.<\/p>\n<p>In September, IAG raised \u20ac2.74 billion to shore up its balance sheet and withstand a prolonged slump in air travel. At the time, the group said it was planning to cut capacity for 2020 by 63% compared with a previous estimate of 59%. Capacity in the fourth quarter is expected to be down by\u00a060%\u00a0from 2019 \u2014 a much steeper decline than its previous scenario of a\u00a046%\u00a0drop.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>For next year, it is expected to decline 27%, compared with 2019 and it doesn\u2019t think demand will recover until 2023 at the earliest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read:<\/strong> Come back, Americans: Urgent calls for U.S.-U.K. air bridge with airlines hit by fresh lockdown fears  <\/p>\n<p>Last week, the U.K. government unveiled a Global Travel Taskforce to look at how a testing regime for international arrivals could be implemented to boost safe travel to and from the U.K.   <\/p>\n<p>Russ Mould, investment director at AJ Bell, said that BA, which has historically relied on business travelers for a large part of its revenue, now faces the prospect of significantly reduced demand from this customer base as video conferencing has become second nature to people at work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoyle will either have to dramatically drop British Airways\u2019 prices to lure these business travelers back or find a new way to keep its planes full in the sky once the health crisis dies down and economic prospects improve,\u201d Mould said.<\/p>\n<p>Cruz, who became BA\u2019s chairman and chief executive in April 2016, was at the helm of the airline when it was fined $230 million in 2019 for a data breach after the airline\u2019s website and mobile <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a> were hacked.
