IDC reported that overall shipments rose 14.6% from the same quarter a year ago, the largest year-over-year increase since the second quarter of 2010, while Gartner reported a 3.6% increase. <\/p>\n<p> <strong>Don\u2019t miss: The pandemic has brought the personal computer back to life<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The difference between the two figures relates to one form factor that found huge gains in the back-to-school quarter: Chromebooks, the laptops that use Alphabet Inc.\u2019s<br \/>\n        GOOGL,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202490156\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+3.58%<\/bg-quote><\/p>\n<p>        GOOG,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205453964\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+3.55%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       Chrome operating system that are popular for education. Gartner, which does not include Chromebooks in its accounting of the industry, reported a 90% gain for shipments of those devices separately from its core quarterly report. <\/p>\n<p>Shipments to the U.S. were also a huge boost to the PC market. Gartner reported that shipments to the U.S. jumped 11.4%, also the biggest year-over-year gains since the second quarter of 2010. Gartner research director Mikako Kitagawa told MarketWatch in an email that it was the first time growth hit double-digit percentages since that quarter, but there have been double-digit declines five times in that period.<\/p>\n<p>Laptop shipments to the U.S. jumped 29%, overcoming a decline for desktop computers and the lack of Chromebook numbers in Gartner\u2019s accounting. IDC reported that the U.S. \u201ctraditional PC market witnessed yet another extraordinary quarter, posting strong double-digit shipment growth.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>While previous gains for the PC market were largely credited to businesses purchasing laptops for employees working at home or catching up to new operating systems from Microsoft Corp., including the end of Windows 7 last year, Gartner said this boost came from consumers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis quarter had the strongest consumer PC demand that Gartner has seen in five years,\u201d Kitagawa said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> release Monday. \u201cThe market is no longer being measured in the number of PCs per household; rather, the dynamics have shifted to account for one PC per person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Business demand was still a factor, though, with Kitagawa reporting that \u201centerprise spending remained strong where government funding for distance learning and remote work has fueled device purchases, such as in the U.S. and Japan.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cConsumer demand and institutional demand <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roached record levels in some cases,\u201d according to Jitesh Ubrani, a research manager for IDC. \u201cGaming, Chromebooks, and in some cases cellular-enabled notebooks were all bright spots during the quarter. <\/p>\n<p>Both companies reported that Lenovo Group Ltd.<br \/>\n        992,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205368244\/delayed\" class=\"positive\">+0.97%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       had the strongest market share among PC manufacturers in the quarter, topping HP Inc.<br \/>\n        HPQ,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203461582\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+2.37%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       but the Chromebook discrepancy showed up in those numbers as well. Gartner credited Lenovo with 25.7% of the market and HP 21.6%, but HP\u2019s Chromebook sales made the race much tighter \u2014 23.7% to 23% \u2014 in IDC\u2019s results.
