\u201cIn a barely literate tweet that not once, but twice misspelled the word \u2018its\u2019 as \u2018it\u2019s,\u2019 \u201d snarks The Intercept\u2019s Glenn Greenwald<\/a>, the New York Times Guild \u201cdenounced\u201d one of its own colleagues, Bret Stephens, for his column criticizing the paper\u2019s 1619 Project. In the short tweet, the union \u201cimpressively managed\u201d to fit in \u201cmultiple ironies, fallacies and decrees typical of the petty tyrant.\u201d \u201cWhat kind of journalists plead with management for greater restrictions on journalistic expression rather than fewer?\u201d After all, \u201cjournalism can have value only if it fosters divergent views and seeks to expand rather than reduce\u201d freedom of expression. The Times guild previously called for \u201csensitivity readers\u201d to vet pieces before publication, proving \u201ca belief in free expression is being rapidly eclipsed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pandemic journal: Sweden\u2019s Critics Melt Down<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe better Sweden does\u201d during the pandemic, \u201cthe angrier\u201d critics become, marvels Dan Hannan at the Washington Examiner<\/a>. \u201cLockdown enthusiasts\u201d have now switched their argument from accusing Sweden of \u201cgenocide\u201d for its laissez-faire app<\/a>roach to claiming \u201cwe couldn\u2019t do that here because we\u2019re nothing like Sweden.\u201d Yet that\u2019s \u201cretrospective\u201d justification. Yes, Sweden, as a whole, has a low population density, but 85 percent of its people live in 2 percent of its land. Yes, it\u2019s had more deaths that other Nordic states, but it doesn\u2019t \u201cstick out like a sore thumb.\u201d As for its slow economy despite its relaxed approach? \u201cNonsense\u201d: Any \u201cmedium-sized country will be affected by a global downturn,\u201d and \u201cSweden got off more lightly than most.\u201d Truth is, Sweden is \u201crebuking\u201d doubters by its success. \u201cNo wonder they get so angry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Religion desk: Kamala\u2019s Anti-Catholic Hate<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kamala Harris\u2019 record of bigotry makes her the \u201cpolemicist heir\u201d of Paul Blanchard, the anti-Catholic scourge of John F. Kennedy\u2019s election in the 1950s, asserts Kenneth Craycraft at First Things<\/a>. The difference \u00adbetween the two is that Harris possesses the real power \u201cand is campaigning for more to institutionalize her bigotry.\u201d As the California attorney general<\/a>, she championed a law that would have forced pro-life pregnancy centers to promote abortion and put six Catholic hospitals out of business. And as a US senator, she has repeatedly proved that she is \u201cperfectly willing to impose unconstitutional religious tests to nominees to the federal bench.\u201d Craycraft fears that based on Harris\u2019 history \u201ctogether with Joe Biden\u201d \u2014 who defies church teaching on fundamental points \u2014 \u201cnever have two people with such open hostility to Catholic faith and practice been so close to the two highest offices in America.\u201d<\/p>\n

Centrist: DC Is Now \u2018The Truman Show\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

Washington increasingly seems like a remake of \u201cThe Truman Show,\u201d snarks Jonathan Turley at The Hill<\/a>, except \u201cin this remake, the viewers are the voters in the dark.\u201d Joe Biden\u2019s refusal to answer questions about court packing \u201cis a truly alarming position for a candidate to take.\u201d Meanwhile, Democrats insist the report on \u201cserious and possibly criminal conduct in the Russia investigation\u201d be withheld until after Election Day \u2014 even though the \u201csubjects of scrutiny are not candidates on this ballot, but rather federal officials involved in the investigation of potential collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign in 2016.\u201d And in the Mike Flynn case, \u201cJudge Emmet Sullivan appears to be waiting out on the election before issuing a final ruling.\u201d Americans must wait for answers on all fronts \u2014 because DC insiders are behaving like \u201cthe master architect of the artificial world of the film.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: The Flight 93 Election, Redux<\/strong><\/p>\n

At The American Mind, Michael Anton, the writer behind the infamous \u201cFlight 93 Election\u201d of 2016<\/a>, warns that 2020 is equally an existential choice for conservatives. If President Trump loses, expect \u201cmore of all the trends, policies and practices that .\u2009.\u2009. enrich the ruling class and its foot soldiers at middle America\u2019s expense, erode our natural and constitutionally guaranteed rights and liberties, degrade our culture and its people and dishonor our heritage and history.\u201d<\/p>\n
