When you open the Start menu in Windows 10, you normally see an alphabetical list of apps installed on your system. If you\u2019d like to have a smaller sleeker Start Menu, it\u2019s possible to hide the app list on the left. Here\u2019s how.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s an example of what a typical Start menu app list usually looks like (although yours will vary based on how you\u2019ve configured your PC). We\u2019ve highlighted the app list in red.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019d like to disable that app list, we need to make a small change in Windows Settings.<\/p>\n

Open \u201cSettings\u201d by clicking the \u201cStart\u201d menu and selecting the \u201cGear\u201d icon or by pressing Windows+I.<\/p>\n

On the main Settings menu, click \u201cPersonalization.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"In<\/p>\n

In Personalization, click \u201cStart\u201d in the sidebar.<\/p>\n

In Start menu settings, locate the switch labeled \u201cShow App List In Start Menu.\u201d Click the switch to turn it \u201cOff.\u201d<\/p>\n

The next time you open the Start menu, you\u2019ll see a much smaller menu without the app list. But it\u2019s not gone forever! If you want to see the app list again, click the \u201cAll Apps\u201d button in the sidebar.<\/p>\n

After that, the app list will pop open and you\u2019ll see a full alphabetical list of your installed apps, but the Start menu will stay sleek and small.<\/p>\n

To switch back to the previous view at any time, click the \u201cPinned Tiles\u201d button located just above the \u201cAll Apps\u201d button in the Start menu.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019d like to make your Start menu even smaller, you can quickly resize it by clicking the corners and dragging with your mouse or touchpad. Have fun customizing your machine!<\/p>\n
