“#Facebook<\/a> limits spread of The Post’s Hunter Biden expos\u00e9<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n Facebook moved Wednesday to limit the spread of The Post\u2019s reporting on bombshell emails from Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop that show he introduced his father, Joe Biden, to a Ukrainian energy executive \u2014 a move that led President Trump\u2019s campaign to accuse the company of \u201cinterfering\u201d in the election.<\/p>\n

The social network may also have independent fact-checkers examine the exclusive story based on the younger Biden\u2019s emails, according to Facebook spokesman Andy Stone.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile I will intentionally not link to the New York Post, I want be clear that this story is eligible to be fact checked by Facebook\u2019s third-party fact checking partners,\u201d Stone said on Twitter<\/a>. \u201cIn the meantime, we are reducing its distribution on our platform.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was not immediately clear from Stone\u2019s tweet whether Facebook would app<\/a>ly that treatment to just one or all of The Post\u2019s stories about Biden\u2019s private correspondence, which was obtained from a hard drive left at a Delaware computer repair shop.<\/p>\n

Facebook general<\/a>ly asks fact-checkers to review stories that the company thinks contain misinformation. The Silicon Valley titan says it adds labels to content that\u2019s been fact-checked so \u201cpeople can read additional context.\u201d<\/p>\n

Facebook did not immediately respond to an email asking why it decided to limit the story\u2019s spread and whether a fact-checker has started reviewing it.<\/p>\n

The move drew immediate fire from Trump\u2019s campaign, which accused Facebook of trying to tip the 2020 election in Biden\u2019s favor.<\/p>\n

\u201cFacebook is actively interfering in the election,\u201d the campaign tweeted<\/a>. \u201cFacebook is rigging the election for Joe Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Twitter warned<\/a> some users who tried to retweet the article \u2014 which has\u00a0prompted a US Senate probe \u2014 that \u201cheadlines don\u2019t tell the full story.\u201d Twitter said the label is meant to encourage users to read the article before sharing it.<\/p>\n

The prompt \u201cis part of a test we\u2019re doing right now. It does not depend on the outlet of the article, or the contents of the article,\u201d Twitter spokesman Trenton Kennedy told The Post in an email.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
