The Cogentiva office is divided by an argument about people coming to work sick.\u00a0<em>Enlightened<\/em>\u00a0really resonates this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomeone Else\u2019s Life\u201d is a great episode of TV: It picks up the momentum of the first two episodes, illuminates the personalities of Amy\u2019s co-workers a bit, and shows her first \u201cstep\u201d in being a better person. Here we go, baby: Some personal growth!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The scene at the homeless shelter did not play out how I thought it would. Amy wants to do good\u2014<em>needs<\/em>\u00a0to do good. She hastily sets up a job interview at a homeless shelter, attempting to be \u201cof service,\u201d but turns down an offer because $26,000 a year is not enough to realistically live on. Earlier, her mother chided her for not being financially responsible, but Amy\u2019s level-headed enough to know she\u2019ll still be \u201ctr<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ed\u201d in debt if she accepts the job. Instead of an awkward, misguided incident, it becomes a moment of humanity between two strangers. The shelter head (Scott Wilson) reassures her: \u201cDo what you can, Amy. That\u2019s all you can do.\u201d (Though, of course, there is the irony that the rehab facility where she went to get better has now left her worse off financially.)<\/p>\n<p>Amy gains some perspective by the end of the episode, but part of the thrill of\u00a0<em>Enlightened<\/em>\u00a0is seeing how long she holds on to it.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"><strong><em>SPONSORED<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There are a million masks to choose from these days. There\u2019s needed context for what led to their divorce, and Luke Wilson plays the addled Levi with the appropriate balance of\u00a0empathy and stubbornness.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Amy tells her mother she meditates to stop the \u201cCompulsive thinking about yourself and your life,\u201d which is of course what interrupts her attempt to do so later on. I gasped when Amy tries to focus during meditating, only to start examining the wrinkles on her hand: \u201cI\u2019m 40,\u201d her inner voice says. \u201cI\u2019m severely dehydrated.\u201d This same disruption happened to me a week ago, only my attention was drawn to a mole on my hand that\u2026 definitely\u2026 wasn\u2019t there before? \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But who cares when you\u2019ve got sweeping views of the Kern River, a\u00a0place to forget your \u201csad story\u201d and the labels we ascribe to people after they\u2019ve broken our hearts. We\u2019re slowly starting to find out about Amy\u00a0<em>before<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>Enlightened<\/em>\u00a0is good at casting bit parts: Kayak guide Rick (M.C. Gainey) relates that he\u2019s a former TV writer\u00a0and takes a jab at Hollywood, saying it\u2019s a \u201cspecial layer of hell.\u201d Given White\u2019s past with TV writing, is that a middle finger, by proxy? White told\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/transcripts\/140950031\">NPR<\/a>\u00a0yes: \u201cThat character is a version of me, honestly.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trying to interact with someone when you\u2019re sober and they\u2019re not is frustrating,\u00a0but Levi frames it in a way that makes sense: The drugs dull the pain of that \u201ccompulsive thinking about yourself and your life.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"><strong><em>RECOMMENDED<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you love the idea of cramming your month full of scares, let us save you the trouble of scrolling your library until your eyeballs fall out.
