“#Heated NYC pol rants after punishing son<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n Brooklyn Assemblywoman Diana Richardson defended severe corporal punishment of her child during a 15-minute video tirade she produced on social media<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Richardson\u2019s Facebook Live rant was triggered by her protest of the media outlet City&State for putting her on a list of politicians it had once honored who it says have since \u201ccrashed, burned and flamed out.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey had the nerve to put Diana Richardson on the crash, burn elected official list,\u201d Richardson said, referring to herself in the third person.<\/p>\n

But what really outraged Richardson is that the outlet recycled her 2017 criminal case when Richardson was accused of beating her 12-year-old son with a broomstick in its summary of her fall from grace on the list.<\/p>\n

Richardson said she\u2019s being unfairly portrayed as an \u201cangry black woman.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really, really frustrating,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Toward the end of her videotape, Richardson defended whupping kids as a form of discipline.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m Caribbean! We discipline our children,\u201d Richardson said, making a broad characterization.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I was not elected and I tag up my son\u2019s ass, I\u2019ll just call it what it is. I beat him,\u201d said the pol, who represents the central Brooklyn neighborhoods of Crown Heights, East Flatbush, Wingate and Prospect-Lefferts Gardens.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I grew up receiving plenty lickings and I\u2019m doing real good right now. So don\u2019t come to judge me and judge my family. I\u2019m sick of it. It is disrespectful,\u201d she went on.<\/p>\n

Richardson repeatedly said she\u2019s a \u201cstrong black woman\u201d who is \u201cunafraid\u201d and stands up for her constituents, and that\u2019s all that matters.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel pretty good about me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Richardson\u2019s video is just her the latest in a string of tirades and confrontations that has stirred controversy.<\/p>\n

She apologized after slamming Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie (D-Bronx) during a closed-door meeting with the Democratic caucus members in 2018. Other Assembly members described her outburst as a rude tantrum.<\/p>\n

Richardson was also accused of blaming Jews for gentrification in her district.<\/p>\n

She also tried to shame a parking enforcement agent who gave her a ticket for illegally parking her car.<\/p>\n
