\n Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said in a TV interview Tuesday that the police shooting death of Rayshard Brooks began as \u201calmost a pleasant interaction\u201d that \u201cdidn\u2019t have to end this way.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat could have been any one of us,\u201d Bottoms said on NBC\u2019s \u201cToday\u201d show. \u201cThat could be any of our kids or brothers. In this case it was: It was someone\u2019s father.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bottoms said the shooting, which \u201cis so personal to so many people of color,\u201d began as \u201calmost a pleasant interaction.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt didn\u2019t have to end this way. That\u2019s what\u2019s so frustrating,\u201d she said. \u201cIt leaves us asking so many questions. We do so many things in Atlanta we thought to get it right, and this went so terribly wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police Chief Erika Shields resigned less than 24 hours after the Friday night shooting, saying in a statement, \u201cIt is time for the city to move forward and build trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the mayor said she app<\/a>reciated Shield\u2019s work and dedication \u2013 and that the former chief, who remains on the force, will have input on its \u201ctransformation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The police department had already reviewing its policies, and Brooks\u2019 death \u2014 which has been ruled a homicide \u2014 only intensifies the need for that, Bottoms said.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old was shot during a foot chase following a field sobriety test in the parking lot of a Wendy\u2019s restaurant, where he had fallen asleep in the drive-thru line.<\/p>\n

Garrett Rolfe and a second officer, Devin Brosnan, chased Brooks after he grabbed one of their Tasers and ran off. He was seen in footage appearing to fire the Taser.<\/p>\n

The former officer could face a felony murder charge, Fulton County\u2019s top prosecutors said Sunday. Brosnan has been put on administrative leave.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
