\n MSNBC senior business reporter Stephanie Ruhle filmed promotional segments for JPMorgan Chase, a bank she covers \u2014 raising questions of potential conflicts of interest.<\/p>\n

Ruhle, the weekday \u201cMSNBC Live\u201d anchor, joined ESPN\u2019s Jay Williams in a six-minute Chase video focusing on financial planning around the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a Sept. 22 tweet<\/a> from the bank.<\/p>\n

\u201cI sat down with @Chase and @realjaywilliams to chat about planning for life\u2019s unpredictable moments\u2026something many of us are experiencing right now,\u201d Ruhle tweeted<\/a> days later, sharing the clip. \u201cTune in to see the full conversation \u2014 you won\u2019t want to miss it.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the longer segment, which has been made private on the bank\u2019s YouTube<\/a>, she offers bank-friendly advice like, \u201cSaving is always the answer\u201d and, \u201cPlease save as much as you can. And plan ahead,\u201d The Washington Post<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n

The anchor denied involvement with the bank when questioned by The Post, the paper reported, referring any further questions to MSNBC.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not doing any work on behalf of Chase Bank,\u201d she said. \u201cI don\u2019t know what you are referring to.\u201d<\/p>\n

An MSNBC spokesperson stressed that Ruhle was not paid for the app<\/a>earance or compensated in any way and that she didn\u2019t promote the bank. NBC and MSNBC journalists are not permitted to be paid for such engagements, the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs is a common practice for journalists, Stephanie participated in an interview as a subject matter expert,\u201d the network spokesperson said in a statement. \u201cThe issue was not the interview, but the way Chase promoted and framed it across social media. Chase has since recognized and corrected their mistake.\u201d<\/p>\n

JPMorgan Chase spokeswoman Trish Wexler told The Hill<\/a>\u00a0that the company will no longer feature her promotional videos after concern has grown over her over impartiality.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was not paid for this financial literacy content. It was our mistake to promote it, and we\u2019re sorry,\u201d Wexler told the outlet.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
