“#Michael C. Hall set to return for ‘Dexter’ revival on Showtime<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n America\u2019s favorite serial killer is coming back.<\/p>\n

Showtime has ordered<\/a> a limited series<\/a> revival of bloody drama \u201cDexter\u201d and star Michael C. Hall will return to the title role. It will be 10 episodes long, and further plot details are under wraps.<\/p>\n

\u201cDexter\u201d originally ran for eight seasons (2006 to 2013), following the titular Miami-based serial killer, played by Hall, 49. He made the unusual choice to only target fellow serial killers as his victims \u2014 all while working for the police department, right under the noses of those who might put him behind bars.<\/p>\n

The show enjoyed critical acclaim during its run, including a slew of Golden Globe and Emmy nominations. However, a revival is an audacious choice because \u2014 like \u201cLost,\u201d \u201cHow I Met Your Mother\u201d and \u201cGame<\/a> of Thrones\u201d \u2014 it didn\u2019t exactly have a beloved ending.<\/p>\n

As a refresher, at the close of the eighth and final season, Dexter\u2019s sister (and sort-of love interest) Debra Morgan \u2014 played by Hall\u2019s real-life ex-wife, Jennifer Carpenter \u2014 dies, and Dexter sends his kid off to live with his serial-killer girlfriend, Hannah (\u201cThe Handmaid\u2019s Tale\u201d star Yvonne Strahovski). As for Dexter himself? Rather than give him the logical end the show was leading to \u2014 such as death or jail or perhaps continued life as a serial killer \u2014 the show made the baffling choice to end with him becoming a lumberjack.<\/p>\n

Nothing \u201cDexter\u201d did up to that point had remotely set that up. It was so random and nonsensical, it\u2019s an ending that lives in TV infamy as an example to all showrunners of what not<\/em> to do.<\/p>\n

But now, it won\u2019t be the last word anymore. Will the revival attempt to undo it? Will it lean into it, and explore his life as a lumberjack? Time will tell.<\/p>\n

It doesn\u2019t yet have a premiere date, but production is set for 2021.<\/p>\n
