\n Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny is calling on President Trump to join other world leaders in denouncing the banned Soviet-era nerve agent he says Russian leader Vladimir Putin used to poison him, according to a report.<\/p>\n

The 44-year-old dissident, who was discharged Sept. 23 from a German hospital, spoke with CBS News\u2019 Lesley Stahl<\/a> in Berlin in his first US television interview since he was poisoned Aug. 20 during a domestic flight in Russia.<\/p>\n

Asked if he believes Putin directed the attack, Navalny said, \u201cI don\u2019t think. I\u2019m sure that he is responsible.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Monday, the European Union agreed to impose sanctions against Russian officials over the incident.<\/p>\n

The EU foreign ministers agreed with calls by France and Germany at a meeting in Luxembourg to freeze the assets of those suspected of poisoning Navalny and ban them from travel<\/a>ing in Europe under sanctions to combat the use of chemical weapons.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have noticed [Trump] didn\u2019t,\u201d Navalny told Stahl for the \u201c60 Minutes\u201d edition that airs Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s extremely important\u2013 that everyone\u2026 maybe\u2026 first of all, president of United States, to be very again[st] using chemical weapons in the 21st century,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Navalny said he believes the Novichok attack on him also was meant to terrify others.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a banned substance. I think Putin\u2026 he\u2019s using this chemical weapon\u2026 [to ]both kill me and, you know, terrify others. It\u2019s something really scary,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere the people just drop dead\u2026 no gun\u2026 no shots\u2026 you\u2019ll be dead and without any traces on your body. It\u2019s something terrifying. And Putin is enjoying it,\u201d Navalny added.<\/p>\n

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the accusation was \u201ccompletely baseless and unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n

Navalny said: \u201cThey deny everything because it means that they still have this Novichok. They\u2019re not just violating [the chemical weapons ban] with keeping it. They\u2026 continue to improve it.\u201d<\/p>\n
