All of Tinseltown is buzzing about Avatar<\/em><\/strong>, baby! The movie on everyone\u2019s lips these days is\u00a0Avatar 2<\/em><\/strong>, a sequel that is really happ<\/a>ening and will really be released one day, we swear! James Cameron<\/strong> is currently making 500\u00a0Avatar<\/em> sequels at once, and based on set pics, all the movies<\/a> take place inside the YMCA swimming pool. But what else is going on in\u00a0Avatar 2<\/em>? What\u2019s the\u00a0hot goss<\/em> from the streets of Pandora? Hollywood heartthrob David Thewlis<\/strong> has a juicy scoop about the sequel and he\u2019s ready to dish!<\/p>\n

Update:<\/strong> Despite reports to the contrary, Thewlis is not in\u00a0Avatar 2<\/em> \u2013 but he is in the other\u00a0Avatar<\/em> sequels. Speaking with Collider, the actor said:<\/p>\n

\u201cI should be clear, by the way, \u2018cause I know that a magazine in Britain has got me in\u00a0Avatar 2<\/em>, but I\u2019m not in\u00a0Avatar 2<\/em>. I\u2019m going to be in\u00a0Avatar 3<\/em>, which was shot at the same time as\u00a0Avatar 2<\/em>, and the plan is that I will be in\u00a0Avatar 4<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a05<\/em>, as well. I just wanted to clear that up because somebody got that wrong recently.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Back in 2018, we learned that David Thewlis was appearing in all of the\u00a0Avatar<\/em> sequels and that he would be playing one of the\u00a0Na\u2019vi, the gigantic alien creatures who ride around on dragons or something like that. But what else can Thewlis reveal about these sequels? Well, I\u2019ll let the man himself tell you:<\/p>\n

\u201cI am a Na\u2019vi, I\u2019m a blue thing in it \u2013 which I didn\u2019t quite understand when I went to meet [Cameron]. I was quite surprised when I got offered that. I\u2019m fascinated to see how I\u2019m going to look, because they sort of make them look a bit like oneself. It\u2019s fantastic!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In all seriousness, I do appreciate Thewlis\u2019 honesty here. There\u2019s something amusing and refreshing about him saying both that he\u2019s playing \u201ca blue thing\u201d and that he didn\u2019t even understand what the hell the part was when he met with Cameron. The quote comes from an interview with Total Film, via Game<\/a>s Radar, and in the same interview, Thewlis also opened up about the filming process:<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve got no idea what my scenes will be like because there are about 16 guys in the room with video cameras but they\u2019re just shooting reference shots for Jim [Cameron] to look at later. What those guys are shooting will never be on the screen, what\u2019s being shot is obviously on these sensors. There are about 200 around the room, doing their thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Again: this is a great reply. It doesn\u2019t sound like Thewlis is knocking the\u00a0Avatar<\/em> sequels. Indeed, it really seems like he\u2019s having fun working on all of this. But he\u2019s also clearly bemused by how strange the filmmaking process is behind these films. I genuinely like Thewlis as an actor \u2013 he\u2019s one of those guys I\u2019m always happy to see whenever he turns up, no matter what the role. So I\u2019m sure he\u2019ll do a great job as a blue thing.<\/p>\n

Shooting on\u00a0Avatar 2<\/em> was on hold due to the coronavirus, but as we reported earlier, Cameron and company are gearing up to get back to work in New Zeland very soon. As of now,\u00a0Avatar 2: The Blue Thing<\/em> is set to open\u00a0December 27, 2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
