Scientists at the University of Oxford have developed an \u201cextremely rapid\u201d COVID-19 test that can produce results in less than five minutes, the university said on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p> The researchers <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ox.ac.uk\/news\/2020-10-15-oxford-scientists-develop-extremely-rapid-diagnostic-test-covid-19\" class=\"icon none\">hoped the test<\/a> could eventually be used at airports, music venues, and businesses to quickly establish COVID-free spaces.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       The university said it hoped to start product development in early 2021, with an <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roved device available within six months. It is currently working to set up a spinout company, seeking investment to accelerate the test into a fully integrated device.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, Siemens Healthineers<br \/>\n        SHL,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203113177\/delayed\" class=\"negative\">-0.91%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       launched a rapid antigen test that can identify the virus within 15 minutes, with plans for it to be submitted for Food and Drug Administration Emergency Use Authorization.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Oxford test is able to identify SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, with \u201chigh accuracy,\u201d the researchers said in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.medrxiv.org\/content\/10.1101\/2020.10.13.20212035v1\" class=\"icon none\">a preprint study<\/a> that is yet to be peer reviewed. It can also differentiate the virus from other infections such as flu and seasonal human coronaviruses, the study added.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Achillefs Kapanidis, from Oxford\u2019s Department of Physics, said: \u201cOur method quickly detects intact virus particles; meaning the assay is simple, extremely rapid, and cost-effective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The method involves taking throat swabs, which are then scanned for virus particles.
