\nIf you\u2019ve been watching The Vow<\/em>, HBO<\/strong>\u2019s bombshell docuseries<\/a> about the NXIVM cult, you\u2019ve seen India Oxenberg<\/strong>\u2019s friends and family \u2014 including her mother,\u00a0Dynasty<\/em> star Catherine Oxenberg<\/strong> \u2014 fight to get India out from under the thumb of cult leader Keith Raniere<\/strong>. Now, India is telling her own story.<\/p>\n

While on the surface NXIVM<\/strong> was an organization dedicated to self-improvement, behind the scenes it was something far more sinister. A secretive, all-female group called DOS<\/strong> was formed, and its leaders extracted collateral from its members to blackmail them into master-slave relationships that all lead back to Raniere.<\/p>\n

And none of it would have been possible without his right-hand woman, Smallville<\/em> star Allison Mack<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

India was a dedicated member of NXIVM when Mack invited her to join DOS. She told People <\/em>on Thursday:<\/p>\n

\u201cAllison said she had a special program she thought could help me. I felt singled out. I felt special.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Of course! How could you not trust Chloe Sullivan for crying out loud??<\/p>\n

But rather than enriching the 29-year-old\u2019s life, the program nearly destroyed it. The collateral India gave was as if she \u201chanded over the keys to lock myself in prison,\u201d as she put it. As her \u201cmaster,\u201d Mack required India to live on an extreme 500-calorie a day diet, and worse, forced her into a sexual relationship with Raniere. India explained:<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of my first commands from Allison was to seduce Keith. At the time, I believed it was a place I could push against fear and vulnerability. That\u2019s what I was told the assignment was. I wanted to believe Allison.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Failure to give in to the CW<\/strong> star\u2019s demands resulted in punishments like cold showers and being forced to do planks. India said:<\/p>\n

\u201cI was coerced and manipulated and believed what I was doing was helping me when I was really just serving Keith.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Elsewhere, she added:<\/p>\n

\u201cYou get so used to this environment of abuse that you believe you\u2019re deserving of it, that it\u2019s good for you. \u2026 I didn\u2019t want to see it as sexual abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It\u2019s still so hard to believe Allison would do all this, even for India.<\/p>\n

Despite the years of indoctrination and perpetuating abuse, India claimed to see a hint of humanity in her former friend shortly before her arrest in 2018. She shared:<\/p>\n

\u201cShe grabbed my hand. She said \u2018I don\u2019t know if I\u2019m making the right decision. What if I wanted to have children or a husband?\u2019 She started to question her choices. I had never seen her vulnerable.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Wow. she almost had a moment of clarity; sadly it didn\u2019t last.<\/p>\n

India had previously reflected on her close relationship with Allison, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cShe had a lot of power and control over me and I was scared of her but she can\u2019t hurt me anymore. I think in a lot of ways she saw herself as a kind of Joan of Arc character, willing to fall on a sword for Keith.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
