\n Meet the new King of Staten Island.<\/p>\n

Online shopping behemoth Amazon is gearing up to open a third mega warehouse on Staten Island, according to a new report.<\/p>\n

The tech giant founded by Jeff Bezos has leased nearly one million square feet at Matrix Global Logistics Park near the Goethals Bridge, where it already has two other warehouses, according to Crain\u2019s New York Business, which confirmed the deal with Matrix Development Group.<\/p>\n

Amazon first opened a 850,000-square-foot distribution center at the site in 2017 and added another 450,000-square-foot building next door this year. The third warehouse is 975,000 square feet.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Amazon said the new \u201csort center at 526 Gulf Avenue in Staten Island will officially open for business in November.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Seattle-based company has been gobbling up New York metro area real estate as it expands its logistical and retail operations here. In March, it bought the iconic Fifth Avenue Lord & Taylor\u2019s flagship store for its New York City offices. And earlier this year it bought two former Fairway Market stores in New Jersey.<\/p>\n

Last year, it scooped up a 100,000 square foot warehouse in the Bronx.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis sort center will sort packages before being transferred to a delivery station or last-mile delivery partner for final delivery to customers,\u201d Amazon said in a statement. \u201cThe sort center has already created more than 1,250 full-time and part-time associate jobs, all paying at least $17.25 per hour.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
