However, some stars produce superflares \u2014 stellar eruptions 10 to 1,000 larger than anything seen on the Sun. Such eruptions produce powerful outbursts of ultraviolet radiation capable of wiping out life on<span>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"bt il\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/the-cosmic-companion\/24-planets-that-may-be-more-habitable-than-earth-900068802301?source=friends_link&amp;sk=6c4f930b7257e9274493bbd2d65bd8f8\">planets in orbit around the star<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"2e9b\" class=\"gl gm em en b gn ig go gp gq ih gr gs gt ii gu gv gw ij gx gy gz ik ha hb hd ee fe\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The team observed target stars using the UNC-Chapel Hill Evryscope telescope array and NASA\u2019s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), seeking to understand how superflares affect exoplanets.<\/p>\n<p id=\"0da3\" class=\"gl gm em en b gn ig go gp gq ih gr gs gt ii gu gv gw ij gx gy gz ik ha hb hd ee fe\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Researchers found a relationship between the size of a<span>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"bt il\" href=\"https:\/\/thecosmiccompanion.net\/stellar-turbulence-shapes-activity-of-stars\/\">superflare<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>and its temperature. The amount of radiation released by superflares is dependent on temperature, connecting the size of the flare to the amount of energy released.<\/p>\n<p id=\"c2a6\" class=\"gl gm em en b gn ig go gp gq ih gr gs gt ii gu gv gw ij gx gy gz ik ha hb hd ee fe\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Superflares <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly emit the majority of their energy over a short 15-minute period. Observations were taken by astronomers every two minutes, producing data throughout the events.<\/p>\n<p id=\"5256\" class=\"gl gm em en b gn ig go gp gq ih gr gs gt ii gu gv gw ij gx gy gz ik ha hb hd ee fe\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Superflares could supply most of the ultraviolet radiation affecting biological processes on alien worlds.<\/p>\n<p id=\"cd8b\" class=\"gl gm em en b gn ig go gp gq ih gr gs gt ii gu gv gw ij gx gy gz ik ha hb hd ee fe\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">If such flares erupt at temperatures over 8,700 degrees Celsius (15,700 Fahrenheit),<span>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"bt il\" href=\"https:\/\/thecosmiccompanion.net\/white-dwarfs-explode-in-ultraviolet-light\/\">ultraviolet radiation<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>could be 10 times greater than would be expected from studying just visible light from the events, the study found. This finding could potentially change our understanding of how superflares affect exoplanets.<\/p>\n<p id=\"f8e9\" class=\"gl gm em en b gn ig go gp gq ih gr gs gt ii gu gv gw ij gx gy gz ik ha hb hd ee fe\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">\u201cHowever, it is unknown for how long M-dwarf superflares reach temperatures above 9000 K. Only a handful of M-dwarf superflares have been recorded with multi-wavelength high-cadence observations,\u201d researchers wrote in an article in the<span>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"bt il\" href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/2010.00604\"><em class=\"hf\">Astrophysical Journal<\/em><\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>detailing their study.
