\n From the left: Biden\u2019s No Placeholder<\/strong><\/p>\n

Even as \u201cmany on the left scoff at the notion that [Joe] Biden is preparing for a transformational presidency,\u201d his metamorphosis since the \u00adObama administration has inspired \u201ca fresh sense of urgency and a jolt of ambition,\u201d remarks The Atlantic\u2019s Franklin Foer<\/a>. Biden\u2019s promises to \u00ad\u201caggressively press forward\u201d with immigration, police, health care and stimulus reforms and a $15 minimum wage reflect an \u201corganic pivot in his thinking.\u201d And a feeling \u201cthat he hasn\u2019t been given his full due\u201d will lead him to \u201cdebunk any lingering sense that he is a placeholder.\u201d The promise of a Biden presidency \u201cisn\u2019t simply that he will ambitiously deploy government, but that he\u2019ll sweat the politics of that expansion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Culture critics: Amazon\u2019s Silencing Black Voices<\/strong><\/p>\n

The documentary \u201cWhat Killed Michael Brown?\u201d by African-American scholar Shelby Steele and his filmmaker son Eli Steele \u201cdoesn\u2019t fit the dominant narrative of white police officers killing young black men because of systemic racism,\u201d notes The Wall Street Journal\u2019s editorial board<\/a>. \u201cAs a result, says the younger Steele, Amazon rejected it for its streaming service.\u201d Yet it\u2019s \u201ctelling\u201d that \u201can intelligent film that gives voice to a variety of people, almost all black, who would otherwise not be heard is somehow deemed unfit for \u00adpolite company.\u201d The Journal\u2019s editors are \u201cskeptical\u201d of calls to \u201cbreak up large tech giants\u201d like Amazon since \u201cthat might do more economic harm than good\u201d \u2014 but pressure for that is building on both the left and right. \u201cBy canceling important dissenting voices,\u201d Amazon is \u201cinviting political backlash.\u201d<\/p>\n

Libertarian: Some \u2018Dark Money\u2019 Conspiracy!<\/strong><\/p>\n

At Amy Coney Barrett\u2019s confirmation hearing, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) claimed conservative \u201cdark money\u201d is \u201cpropping up Barrett so she can upend same-sex marriage, abortion and the Affordable Care Act,\u201d reports Billy Binion at Reason<\/a>. Whitehouse argues, basically, that \u201cconservative groups have made hefty donations to conservative causes, which have then been victoriously litigated in the courts, and the money is somehow to blame.\u201d Yet none of those victories pertain to \u201csame-sex marriage, abortion or the Affordable Care Act\u201d \u2014 while cases that do involve those issues have resulted in recent decisions favorable to liberals. Plus, \u201cDemocrats receive more in \u2018dark money\u2019 contributions than Republicans these days.\u201d And it was Hillary Clinton who promised \u201clitmus tests for justices, openly campaigning on selecting nominees that would promise to strike down Citizens United v. FEC and uphold Roe v. Wade.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: Dems\u2019 Orwellian Word Game<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

When Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett \u201cuttered the words \u2018sexual preference\u2019 rather than \u2018sexual orientation\u2019\u2009\u201d at this week\u2019s Senate confirmation hearing, observes John McCormack at National Review<\/a>, Democrats and reporters suggested she was \u201csome kind of bigot.\u201d Yet Joe Biden used the term in May, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Sen. Dianne Feinstein did so in 2017. Indeed, it\u2019s been used frequently over the past decade, including by a gay-rights advocate in the magazine The Advocate as recently as last month \u2014 and no one complained. \u201cThe story went from hypocritical to Orwellian when Merriam-Webster\u2019s dictionary app<\/a>arently updated its definition of the word \u2018preference\u2019 in response\u201d: \u201cIt\u2019s now defined as \u2018offensive\u2019 when used to refer to sexual orientation\u201d \u2014 yet that wasn\u2019t the case just a few weeks ago.<\/p>\n

Media<\/a> watch: \u2018Sexist\u2019 Coverage of Women<\/strong><\/p>\n

The liberal media keeps running \u201cafoul\u201d of guidelines compiled by \u201cliberal anti-sexism experts\u201d on how to report on female candidates, Andrew Stiles at the Washington Free Beacon sarcastically kids<\/a>. The rules \u2014 don\u2019t comment on a woman\u2019s \u201cambition,\u201d \u201clikability\u201d or whether she\u2019s \u201cqualified\u201d for the job \u2014 were almost immediately breached when the media reported approvingly on Sen. Kamala Harris\u2019 footwear. And then broken again when they snarked at Amy Coney Barrett\u2019s sartorial choices. \u201cThe justice picked a very nice outfit for her first confirmation hearing,\u201d the Daily Beast\u2019s \u00adAlaina Demopoulos wrote, sexistly, jokes Stiles. Expect more: \u201cThe behavior thus far of our nation\u2019s foremost professional journalists \u2014 ignoring the expert guidelines and embracing sexism at the expense of the truth \u2014 has been regrettable.\u201d<\/p>\n
