\n Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Sunday dismissed angst over the banned massive Hasidic wedding in Brooklyn as \u201cnot on the top of list of concerns\u2019\u2019 for the state amid COVID-19.<\/p>\n

\u201cI understand their point. They had planned a large wedding. And everybody was excited for the wedding. And then the government says you can\u2019t have this large wedding. How terrible. We were all excited about this large wedding,\u2019\u2019 said the governor \u2014 the day after the state barred the planned celebration because it was expected to draw 10,000 people together amid the pandemic.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou can\u2019t have a wedding now with thousands of people,\u2019\u2019 the governor said. \u201cThere is no safe way to do that. We know that. We know that a party with a hundred people has generated issues.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

He noted that one of his daughters didn\u2019t have a college-graduation ceremony this year because of the virus and that people have died in nursing homes and hospitals from COVID-19, including without being able to have their loved ones near them for comfort.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn the scale, I think, \u2018I really wanted a big wedding\u2019 isn\u2019t on the top of the list of concerns,\u2019\u2019 Cuomo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy suggestion: Have a small wedding this year. Next year, have a big wedding. Invite me, I\u2019ll come.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Williamsburg has been one of the worst recent resurging COVID-19 hot spots in the city, with an infection rate of more than three times that of the overall Big App<\/a>le as many people have openly flaunted mandated health restrictions there.<\/p>\n

The Jewish wedding, set for Monday, is for the grandchild of Zalman Leib Teitelbaum, a grand rabbi of the Satmar sect. It was expected to draw massive crowds outside venues on Rodney Street and Bedford Avenue, where there is a Satmar synagogue and the sect\u2019s United Talmudical Academy.<\/p>\n

Organizers said Saturday, after the state\u2019s order barring the crowd, that they would not allow outdoor guests at the event and that it would only be attended by close family members, according to NBC.<\/a>\n <\/div>\n
