\n The teachers union for Hunter College Campus Schools said Sunday it may still strike over COVID-19 concerns.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Hunter Campus administration has said the school will open [Monday]. And I, the teachers are talking with each other, meeting and will continue to figure out what\u2019s best to do individually and collectively,\u2019\u2019 said Professional Staff Congress President Barbara Bowen on a conference call with reporters, teachers and parents.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this point, we are not threatening a strike tomorrow,\u2019\u2019 she said. \u201cHowever, if these things are not addressed, we will have to go back to that strike-authorization vote\u2019\u2019 from September.<\/p>\n

Hunter College Campus consists of an elementary and a high school, both of which are on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, publicly funded, overseen by the City University of New York and run by Hunter College for its teachers-in-training, according to its Web site.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe faculty at Hunter Campus schools, the teachers, knew all along this summer that the provisions that Hunter was making to keep children separate to prevent infection were not sufficient,\u201d Bowen said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver and over again, we met with them and called for the correct measures, and over and over again, they turned us down,\u2019\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n

The union chief noted that there were four cases of the coronavirus in two kindergarten classes, including two teachers, at the elementary school within the first two and a half weeks.<\/p>\n

She said the lack of greater testing at the school should be immedia<\/a>tely addressed.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of us have concerns about having better PPE,\u2019\u2019 too, Bowen added. \u201cThere\u2019s obviously better equipment that is needed here because what was in place is not working.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe practice of allowing that accommodation for people to work remotely has not been as vigorous, as well, directed as it should be. We would like to see the Hunter Campus administration advocate much more vigorously.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe administration is saying we\u2019ll open Monday. The union leadership and the faculty leadership at Hunter Campus schools thinks that\u2019s a very, very bad and potentially dangerous mistake. And so, we hope that we don\u2019t have to take more dramatic action.\u201d<\/p>\n

Campus math educator Tina Moore, said, \u201cOur teachers are scared, they\u2019re nervous.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe feel that the safety protocols that the school has put in place did not work and did not keep our students safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an e-mailed statement to The Post, the school administration said, \u201cOur reopening plan met the highest health and safety standards and was app<\/a>roved under the CUNY guidelines all of which were much more stringent that the NYC Department of Education\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n

School officials said they took steps such as \u201censur[ing] physical distancing through extensive signage and rearrangement of furniture; implementing a daily mandatory health screening process; adding extensive hand sanitizing stations throughout both buildings; and requiring face coverings and regular hygiene practices for the safety of our entire community.<\/p>\n

\u201cHEPA filters were installed in classrooms in both buildings,\u201d too, the statement said.<\/p>\n

\u201cStudents and their families were overwhelmingly happy and grateful to return to school. More than 60% chose to send their children back to the classroom,\u201d Campus officials said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
