Jos\u00e9 Padilla<\/a>, the iconic Ibiza DJ known for his sets at the Caf\u00e9 Del Mar, died on Sunday. The news<\/a> was confirmed by his family via his social media<\/a> accounts. Earlier this year Padilla revealed that he\u2019d been diagnosed with colon cancer. A GoFundMe<\/a> was launched to help cover his living expenses. He was 64.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis family and friends would like to say thank you to everybody who sent donations and messages of support to help make his last few months easier, and to all the staff of Can Misses Hospital for taking care of him until the end,\u201d a message on his Instagram reads. \u201cNow he has gone and the sunset in Ibiza will never be the same without him, but the beautiful music of Jos\u00e9 Padilla will stay with us forever. Adi\u00f3s maestro.\u201d<\/p>\n

Born in Barcelona, Padilla is known widely as the \u201cgodfather of chill-out.\u201d His Caf\u00e9 Del Mar residency was the inspiration behind the popular mix series of the same name<\/a>. He was an active DJ for over four decades. His first album Souvenir<\/em> was released by Mercury Records in 1998; his last album was 2015\u2019s So Many Colours<\/em>.<\/p>\n
