\n Google responded to the Department of Justice\u2019s blockbuster lawsuit against it on Tuesday by suggesting that the law enforcement agency is stuck in the past.<\/p>\n

In a snark-laden blog post<\/a>, Google\u2019s chief legal officer Kent Walker denied claims that the company is forcing consumer to use its search engine \u2014saying that even an idiot can figure out how to switch browsers.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t the dial-up 1990s, when changing services was slow and difficult, and often required you to buy and install software with a CD-ROM,\u201d Walker\u2019s post read, adding that it is \u201ctrivially easy\u201d to change the default search engine on Google\u2019s Chrome browser.<\/p>\n

The post came complete with examples about exactly how many clicks it actually takes to change the default search engine on the App<\/a>le\u2019s Safari browser, as well as on iPhones and Android devices.<\/p>\n

\u201cChanging your search engine in Safari is easy,\u201d Walker writes. \u201cOn desktop, one click and you\u2019re presented with a range of options.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis lawsuit claims that Americans aren\u2019t sophisticated enough to do this. But we know that\u2019s not true,\u201d he said<\/p>\n

The sassy memo was Google\u2019s attempt to slap back at the DOJ\u2019s claims that the tech giant has been exploiting its market dominance to maintain an iron grip on its position as the \u201cgateway to the internet.\u201d<\/p>\n

The DOJ\u2019s lawsuit is the biggest challenge to big tech in 22 years, and accuses Google of breaking the law by disadvantaging competitors in an effort to sell more online search ads.<\/p>\n

Google\u2019s questionable tactics include a massive contract worth billions of dollars with Apple to make it the default search engine on the iPhone, as well as ensuring that its search engine is pre-loaded onto smartphones using Alphabet\u2019s Android operating system \u2014 which runs the majority of phones around the world.<\/p>\n

The Mountain View, Calif.-company\u2019s consolidation of market share has \u201chad harmful effects on competition and consumers,\u201d the DOJ said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
