“#Spencer Davis, \u2018Gimme Some Lovin\u2019 singer, dead at 81<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n Spencer Davis, who founded the beat band The Spencer Davis Group, has died from pneumonia at the age of 81.<\/p>\n

The Welsh musician and multi-instrumentalist produced hits in the 1960s including \u201cKeep on Running,\u201d \u201cI\u2019m A Man\u201d and \u201cGimme Some Lovin.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

He died on Oct. 19 from pneumonia in California, according to his agent.<\/p>\n

\u201cGimme Some Lovin\u2019\u201d famously featured on the soundtracks of hit movies<\/a> \u201cThe Blues Brothers\u201d and \u201cNotting Hill.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Spencer Davis Group\u2019s music is still popular years after being produced \u2014 and is included on the newly released film \u201cI Am Woman,\u201d about the late Helen Reddy.<\/p>\n

According to official charts, The Spencer Davis Group had two No. 1 hits including four top-10 hits and seven singles that made the top 40.<\/p>\n

All three of the band\u2019s albums made the top six without getting any higher than No. 3.<\/p>\n

Following the news<\/a>, tributes have been paid on social media<\/a> by fellow musicians and friends of the musician.<\/p>\n

Radio Caroline presenter Suzy Wilde, who regarded the guitarist as one of her friends, took to Twitter to recall her memories.<\/p>\n

She wrote<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019m so very, very saddened to learn of the passing of Spencer Davis. He was such a lovely man, generous and kind, warm and funny, and will be much missed. RIP dear Spencer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Birmingham International Jazz Festival founder Jim Simpson, who was told about Davis\u2019 passing by drummer Pete York, said: \u201cI took Pete\u2019s call half an hour ago and thought: \u2018What a shame\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpencer was a lovely man \u2014 always very courteous and a purist about music.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Spencer Davis Group stuck more to the blues and never became a fully-fledged rock band.<\/p>\n

\u201cSpencer was scholarly and well educated, very gentle and kind and his tastes in music were spot on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davis\u2019 agent Bob Birk said: \u201cI have represented him as his agent for over 30 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a very good friend. He was a highly ethical, very talented, good-hearted, extremely intelligent, generous man.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe leaves behind his longtime, domestic partner, June, and three adult children.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe will be missed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davis was inspired to begin his own musical journey after hearing an American rhythm and blues band play a rare gig in his hometown of Swansea as a teenager.<\/p>\n

He created his own group called The Saints with his pal Bill Perks \u2014 who later became known as Bill Wyman, the bassist for the Rolling Stones.<\/p>\n

The Welsh musician then went to study German at the University of Birmingham, where he dated Christine Perfect, who went on to marry Fleetwood Mac\u2019s John McVie.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
