\n For a purely online publication, it\u2019s a death threat: Google is warning two sites, ZeroHedge and The Federalist, that it will cut them off from Google Ads revenue because of reader posts in their comments sections.<\/p>\n

Since Google controls a huge chunk of all Web advertising, this means almost no revenues at all. That\u2019s an enormous amount of power for one company, making it easy to see why there\u2019s so much noise about the need for federal antitrust action against it.<\/p>\n

Google\u2019s app<\/a>roach seems antithetical to Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which says Web sites don\u2019t count as publishers of information provided by others. That rule shields Google itself from lawsuits over content it links to \u2014 how can it insist on holding others to a higher standard?<\/p>\n

The company says its policies \u201cprohibit derogatory content that promotes hatred, intolerance, violence or discrimination based on race from monetizing\u201d \u2014 but its tech geniuses can surely just ensure that ads don\u2019t appear in any comments sections. (Advertisers surely don\u2019t want to be there, anyway.)<\/p>\n

This is particularly egregious because both \u201cviolators\u201d were brought to Google\u2019s attention by an NBC reporter pushing claims from left-wing nonprofits \u2014 a reporter who couldn\u2019t get her own facts right.<\/p>\n

Adele-Momoko Fraser\u2019s account Tuesday afternoon for NBC said Google had already cut off both<\/em> sites, and because they\u2019d published \u201carticles pushing unsubstantiated claims about the Black Lives Matter protests.\u201d In fact, Google told The Post\u2019s Nicholas Vega only ZeroHedge is banned, and that the issue is purely its comments sections.<\/p>\n

Fraser\u2019s \u201cfacts\u201d painted Google as utterly in the pocket of the far left, but the truth is still appalling. If Google doesn\u2019t rethink this policy, it\u2019s begging for the feds to crack down.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
