“#Quibi Shuts Down Six Months After Launching<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Quibi<\/a>, the streaming service started by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman, is shutting down six months after launching, the Wall Street Journal<\/a><\/em> reports. According to WSJ<\/em>, the decision to shutter the company was made in an attempt to return as much capital to investors as possible. Read WSJ<\/em>\u2019s full report here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Quibi cost $4.99 a month and differentiated itself from other streaming services by hosting programs in 5-to-10 minute \u201cchapters.\u201d The shows were formatted to fit smartphone screens. Some of Quibi\u2019s programs included MTV\u2019s rebooted prank show Punk\u2019d<\/em> (hosted by Chance the Rapp<\/a>er), Eric Andr\u00e9\u2019s \u201cRapper Warrior Ninja\u201d show, and a new season of Reno 911!<\/em><\/p>\n

Quibi will reportedly lay off its employees and pay severance. According to WSJ<\/em>, Katzenberg suggested that Quibi staffers listen to the Trolls<\/em> song \u201cGet Back Up Again<\/a>\u201d (sung by Anna Kendrick) to lift their spirits following the news<\/a>. In addition to closing its doors, Quibi is currently in a legal dispute with interactive-video company Eko. Eko alleges that Quibi stole trade secrets and violated its patents.<\/p>\n
