\n Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez blasted Republican lawmakers for calling female legislators by nicknames after President Trump twice referred to her as \u201cAOC\u201d in Thursday night\u2019s debate.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wonder if Republicans understand how much they advertise their disrespect of women in debates when they consistently call women members of Congress by nicknames or first names while using titles & last names when referring to men of = stature,\u201d Ocasio-Cortez tweeted early Friday<\/a> morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cWomen notice. It conveys a lot,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

The Queens-Bronx congresswoman said her popular nickname, \u201cAOC\u201d, was born out of the community and should be reserved for \u201cthe people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGovernment colleagues referring to each other in a public or professional context (aka who don\u2019t know me like that) should refer to their peers as \u201cCongresswoman,\u201d \u201cRepresentative,\u201d etc. Basic respect 101,\u201d the lawmaker added<\/a> on Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Trump, while answering a question about balancing climate change and the economy, used the term \u201cAOC plus three\u201d two times during the debate.<\/p>\n

The \u201cplus three\u201d is an app<\/a>arent reference to Reps. Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib, whom Trump also routinely refers to by another nickname, \u201cThe Squad.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
