Don\u2019t worry. The careful student will notice the TensorFlow Certification handbook and the outline of this specialization are almost identical.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ca04\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">It\u2019s taught by Laurence Moroney and Andrew Ng, two titans of TensorFlow and machine learning and if I had to only choose one resource to prepare for the exam, this would be it.<\/p>\n<p id=\"aed4\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">I appreciated the short video format and focus on hands-on examples as soon as possible. The multiple code notebooks at the end of each section were must-haves for any practical learner.<\/p>\n<p id=\"e1ff\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">A tip for the programming exercises: don\u2019t just fill in the code gaps, write the entire thing out yourself.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ef73\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe kn is it fh ko iv iw ix kp iz ja jb kq jd je jf kr jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"iq eg\">Time:<\/strong> 3 weeks (reading cover to cover, no exercises) \u2014 3 months (reading cover to cover and doing the exercises).<\/p>\n<p id=\"4876\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"iq eg\">Cost:<\/strong> Price varies on Amazon but I picked up a hard copy for $55. You can see all the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"de in\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/ageron\/handson-ml2\">code for free on GitHub<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"e751\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"iq eg\">Helpfulness level:<\/strong> 7\/10 (only because some chapters aren\u2019t relevant to the exam).<\/p>\n<p id=\"8e98\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">At 700+ pages, this book covers basically all of machine learning and thus, some topics which aren\u2019t relevant to the exam. But it\u2019s a must-read for anyone interested in setting themselves a solid foundation for a future in machine learning and not just to pass an exam.<\/p>\n<p id=\"0575\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">If you\u2019re new to machine learning, you\u2019ll probably find this book hard to read (to begin with). Again, not to worry, you\u2019re not in a rush, learning useful skills takes time.<\/p>\n<p id=\"bf1f\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Put it this way, if you want an idea of the quality of the book, I read the first edition during morning commutes to my machine learning engineer job. And I can tell you, more often than not, I\u2019d end up using exactly what I read in the book during the day.<\/p>\n<p id=\"ddf6\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The 2nd edition is no different, except it\u2019s been updated to cover the latest tools and techniques, namely TensorFlow 2.x \u2014 what the exam is based on.<\/p>\n<p id=\"b2ae\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">If you\u2019re only after relevant chapters to the exam, you\u2019ll want to read:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"\">\n<li id=\"ea4b\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj lr kt ku fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Chapter 10: Introduction to Artificial Neural Networks with Keras<\/li>\n<li id=\"01b0\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe kv is it fh kw iv iw ix kx iz ja jb ky jd je jf kz jh ji jj lr kt ku fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Chapter 11: Training Deep Neural Networks<\/li>\n<li id=\"e74c\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe kv is it fh kw iv iw ix kx iz ja jb ky jd je jf kz jh ji jj lr kt ku fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Chapter 12: Custom Models and Training with TensorFlow<\/li>\n<li id=\"1c0d\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe kv is it fh kw iv iw ix kx iz ja jb ky jd je jf kz jh ji jj lr kt ku fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Chapter 13: Loading and Preprocessing Data with TensorFlow<\/li>\n<li id=\"eab7\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe kv is it fh kw iv iw ix kx iz ja jb ky jd je jf kz jh ji jj lr kt ku fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Chapter 14: Deep Computer Vision Using Convolutional Neural Networks<\/li>\n<li id=\"4893\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe kv is it fh kw iv iw ix kx iz ja jb ky jd je jf kz jh ji jj lr kt ku fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Chapter 15: Processing Sequences Using RNNs and CNNs<\/li>\n<li id=\"b708\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe kv is it fh kw iv iw ix kx iz ja jb ky jd je jf kz jh ji jj lr kt ku fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Chapter 16: Natural Language Processing with RNNs and Attention<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"3575\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">But for the serious student, I\u2019d suggest the whole book and the exercises (maybe not all, but pick and the choose the ones which suit spark your interests most).<\/p>\n<p id=\"6c7c\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe kn is it fh ko iv iw ix kp iz ja jb kq jd je jf kr jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"iq eg\">Time:<\/strong> 3-hours (I only watched 3 lectures) \u2014 24-hours (1-hour per lecture, plus 1-hour review each).<\/p>\n<p id=\"575d\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"iq eg\">Cost:<\/strong> Free.<\/p>\n<p id=\"d192\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"iq eg\">Helpfulness level:<\/strong> 8\/10.<\/p>\n<p id=\"e6a2\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">World-class deep learning information from a world-class university, oh and did I mention? It\u2019s free.<\/p>\n<p id=\"83eb\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The first 3 lectures, deep learning (in general), Convolutional Neural Networks (usually used for computer vision), and Recurrent Neural Networks (usually used for text processing) are the most relevant to the exam.<\/p>\n<p id=\"d39b\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">But again, for the eager learner, going through the whole course wouldn\u2019t be a bad idea.<\/p>\n<p id=\"4ef6\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Be sure to check out the labs and code they offer on GitHub, especially the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"de in\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/aamini\/introtodeeplearning\/\">Introduction to TensorFlow one<\/a>. And again, I can\u2019t stress the importance of writing the code yourself.<\/p>\n<p id=\"d363\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe kn is it fh ko iv iw ix kp iz ja jb kq jd je jf kr jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"iq eg\">Time:<\/strong> 3-hours (depending on how fast your computer is).<\/p>\n<p id=\"221a\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"iq eg\">Cost:<\/strong> Free.<\/p>\n<p id=\"84b3\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><strong class=\"iq eg\">Helpfulness level:<\/strong> 10\/10 (using PyCharm is a requirement).<\/p>\n<p id=\"c001\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">The exam takes place in PyCharm (a Python development tool). Before the exam, I\u2019d never used PyCharm. And it\u2019s suggested you get at least somewhat familiar with it before you start.<\/p>\n<p id=\"57a6\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">So to familiarize myself with PyCharm, I went through their getting started <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube<\/a> which was very straightforward, \u201chere\u2019s what this button does.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"2b96\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">But the main tests were making sure TensorFlow 2.x ran without any issues and my computer could run deep neural networks in a respectable time (my MacBook Pro doesn\u2019t have a Nvidia GPU).<\/p>\n<p id=\"dd06\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">To test this, I replicated the following two TensorFlow tutorials on my local machine:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"\">\n<li id=\"6c94\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj ks kt ku fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"de in\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tensorflow.org\/tutorials\/images\/classification\">Image Classification with TensorFlow<\/a><\/li>\n<li id=\"294d\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe kv is it fh kw iv iw ix kx iz ja jb ky jd je jf kz jh ji jj ks kt ku fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"de in\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tensorflow.org\/tutorials\/text\/text_classification_rnn\">Text classification with TensorFlow<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p id=\"3045\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe ir is it fh iu iv iw ix iy iz ja jb jc jd je jf jg jh ji jj dy fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Both of these worked fine locally, however, as we\u2019ll see below, as soon as I started the exam, I ran into an issue.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"62d8\" class=\"li js ef ap jt lj lk fg jw ll lm fj jz fk ln fm kd fn lo fp kh fq lp fs kl lq fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Extras\"><\/span>Extras<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<ul class=\"\">\n<li id=\"8279\" class=\"io ip ef iq b fe kn is it fh ko iv iw ix kp iz ja jb kq jd je jf kr jh ji jj lr kt ku fc\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">\n<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"de in\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCcIXc5mJsHVYTZR1maL5l9w\/playlists\"><strong class=\"iq eg\">deeplearning.ai videos on Coursera\/YouTube<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 The examination is purely code-based (Python code) but if you want to know what\u2019s going on behind the scenes of the code you\u2019re writing (linear algebra, calculus), I\u2019d jump in and out of videos here as you see fit.
