“#Mindhunter Season 3 Not Happ<\/a>ening? \u2013 \/Film<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Mindhunter<\/em><\/strong>, one of the very best shows Netflix has ever produced, might indeed be over. We\u2019ve heard rumblings of this ever since the second season ended. The cast members of the David Fincher<\/strong>-produced series<\/a> were released from their contracts after season 2, and there\u2019s been very little news<\/a> since then. Now, Fincher is suggesting the show is probably over, or, at the very least, on hold \u2013 and will remain on hold for the foreseeable future.<\/p>\n

Is this the end of\u00a0Mindhunter<\/em>? I sure hope not, since it\u2019s such a fantastic series. But David Fincher, the executive producer and frequent director of the show, which chronicles the early days of FBI serial killer profiling, is suggesting that the show won\u2019t be returning anytime soon. In November of 2019 it was reported that season 3 was on hold until Fincher finished working on\u00a0Mank<\/em>, his new Netflix movie about the writing of\u00a0Citizen Kane<\/em>. But\u00a0Mank<\/em> is done now \u2013 and Fincher doesn\u2019t seem to be in any hurry to start\u00a0Mindhunter\u00a0<\/em>back up again.
\n\u201cMindhunter was a lot for me,\u201d the filmmaker said (via Vulture<\/a>). \u201cIt\u2019s a 90-hour workweek. It absorbs everything in your life. When I got done, I was pretty exhausted, and I said, \u2018I don\u2019t know if I have it in me right now to break season three.’\u201d<\/p>\n

In January of this year, word broke that the show\u2019s cast had been released from their contracts, usually a tell-tale sign that a show is doomed. However, those cast members have said that they\u2019re definitely up for more. \u201cWe\u2019re ready. We\u2019re ready. Whenever the call comes, we\u2019re ready to jump,\u201d said<\/a>\u00a0Jonathan Groff<\/strong>. And in the past, Fincher himself has said in the past that he would like the show to run for at least five seasons. But now that seems very much in doubt.<\/p>\n

\u201cListen, for the viewership that it had, it was a very expensive show,\u201d Fincher said. \u201cWe talked about, \u2018Finish Mank<\/em> and then see how you feel,\u2019 but I honestly don\u2019t think we\u2019re going to be able to do it for less than I did season two. And on some level, you have to be realistic \u2014 dollars have to equal eyeballs.\u201d In other words: Fincher doesn\u2019t want to compromise just to release another season. And while I can respect that, I\u2019d\u00a0really<\/em> like some more\u00a0Mindhunter<\/em>, please and thank you.<\/p>\n

So is there any hope? Possibly. Vulture reached out to a Netflix spokesperson to see if we might ever get a third season, to which the spokesperson replied \u201cMaybe in five years.\u201d See you then, I guess.<\/p>\n
