\n Media<\/a> watch: The Press Can\u2019t Handle the Truth<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThe corporate media has refused to cover the substance of the New York Post\u2019s bombshell reporting\u201d on Hunter Biden\u2019s e-mails, observes The Federalist\u2019s John Daniel Davidson<\/a>, \u201cnot because there\u2019s nothing to the story,\u201d but because it\u2019s \u201charmful to Joe Biden.\u201d Instead, they\u2019ve focused on The Post\u2019s reporting itself \u2014 \u201cthe story about the story \u2014 while studiously ignoring\u201d what the e-mails reveal about the Biden family\u2019s \u201coverseas business dealings and influence-peddling.\u201d The press simply isn\u2019t interested, \u201cjust like they weren\u2019t interested in a recent US Senate committee report on the Bidens\u2019 complex financial transactions in Ukraine and elsewhere. I mean, if you\u2019re not curious why the wife of the former mayor of Moscow would pay Hunter Biden $3.5 million, then you\u2019re not going to be curious about any of this other stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the right: Biden\u2019s Union Lie<\/strong><\/p>\n

At last week\u2019s ABC News<\/a> town hall, Joe Biden \u201cflat-out lied\u201d about supposed endorsements from the boilermakers\u2019 union, infuriating Shawn Steffee, a board member of the largest US boilermaker local, reports the Washington Examiner\u2019s Salena Zito<\/a>. Though many members are registered Democrats, Steffee notes his local endorsed President Trump in September because \u201cBiden\u2019s inconsistency on trade and fracking is a problem, and . . . members can\u2019t find a way to believe him.\u201d Yet Biden\u2019s lie will likely go unreported by most mainstream media, who \u201cseemingly only chase candidate lies that ruffle their sensibilities,\u201d notes Zito. The left can pretend \u201cvoters like Steffee will go away, that their issues will go away, and their concerns will go away,\u201d but \u201cthey won\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

Satirist: Facebook Has No Sense of Humor<\/strong><\/p>\n

At The Wall Street Journal, Babylon Bee editor Kyle Mann laments<\/a> that in 2020, \u201cno article is so absurd\u201d people won\u2019t believe it true. \u201cSnopes has even fact-checked articles as bizarre\u201d as the Babylon Bee\u2019s \u201cOcasio-Cortez App<\/a>ears on \u2018The Price Is Right,\u2019 Guesses Everything Is Free.\u201d Now there\u2019s a new threat to satire: social media. Facebook, for example, actually deleted a Bee satirical post, headlined \u201cSenator Hirono Demands ACB Be Weighed Against a Duck to See If She Is a Witch\u201d (a reference to \u201cMonty Python and the Holy Grail\u201d), saying the article \u201cincited violence.\u201d Mann blames social-media algorithms: \u201cInstead of writing jokes for the audience,\u201d he says, \u201cwe\u2019re writing jokes for a robot with ever-changing standards.\u201d<\/p>\n

Legal beat: Why Wasn\u2019t Toobin Fired?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It \u201cshould not be an unreasonably high standard to ask people not to engage in sex acts while talking to their work colleagues,\u201d snarks National Review\u2019s Dan McLaughlin<\/a>. Yet New Yorker writer Jeffrey Toobin \u201chas yet to be fired, when nearly anyone else would be,\u201d for \u201cvisibly exposing himself while masturbating\u201d on a work Zoom call. Toobin is \u201cinsulated\u201d by his \u201cstar status\u201d and liberal politics, with a \u201cbizarre and unsettling\u201d \u201crush of voices in journalism trying to excuse or normalize Toobin\u2019s behavior.\u201d His \u201cCNN colleagues Brian Stelter and Oliver Darcy, who glory in every foible and scandal over at Fox News, bemoaned that Toobin \u2018has been sidelined at a pivotal moment in the run-up to the presidential election.\u2019 \u201d The sort of \u201csuper-valuable insight\u201d they\u2019re missing? McLaughlin points to Toobin\u2019s June 2018 tweet: \u201cAnthony Kennedy is retiring. Abortion will be illegal in twenty states in 18 months.\u201d<\/p>\n

Foreign desk: The Coming Clash Over Taiwan<\/strong><\/p>\n

The United States faces a seemingly impossible challenge in protecting Taiwan against China, which \u201chas been carrying out the most provocative and sustained show of force\u201d against the country \u201cin nearly a quarter-century,\u201d notes Michael Beckley at Foreign Policy<\/a>. Yet with Taiwan\u2019s \u201cenormous geographic advantage\u201d and the strength of the US military, the question is ultimately \u201cnot whether Taiwan can be defended \u2014 it definitely can \u2014 but whether Taiwan and the United States can revamp their militaries in time to deter a Chinese attack.\u201d Meanwhile, China\u2019s belligerence \u201coffers an opportunity for Taiwan and the United States to have national conversations about the growing Chinese threat and the sacrifices both societies will have to make to contain it.\u201d<\/p>\n
