{"id":96593,"date":"2020-10-24T01:41:08","date_gmt":"2020-10-23T22:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/tensions-boil-over-at-nyc-school-admissions-rally\/"},"modified":"2020-10-24T01:41:08","modified_gmt":"2020-10-23T22:41:08","slug":"tensions-boil-over-at-nyc-school-admissions-rally","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/tensions-boil-over-at-nyc-school-admissions-rally\/","title":{"rendered":"#Tensions boil over at NYC school admissions rally"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Tensions boil over at NYC school admissions rally<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n                        A angry scuffle broke out at a rally backing competitive school admissions Friday after an opposing group interrupted the event.<\/p>\n<p>Roughly 80 supporters of screened schools \u2014 many of them South and East Asian \u2014 gathered near City Hall to demand that the DOE maintain accelerated academic programs.<\/p>\n<p>The action was organized by PLACE NYC, or Parent-Leaders for Accelerated Curriculum &amp; Education.<\/p>\n<p>During podium addresses, about 20 counter-protesters jostled to the front of the crowd while two of them tried to unfurl a banner in front of the speakers.<\/p>\n<p>That attempt was met with im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>te resistance, setting off several minutes of shouting before the volume subsided and the speakers resumed.<\/p>\n<p>A startled trio of local politicians who showed up to support the rally \u2014 City Council members Robert Cornegy and Ben Kallos and state Sen. Andrew Gounardes \u2014 all witnessed the fracas firsthand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey tried to push their way in,\u201d said Karlin Chan, a PLACE supporter. \u201cYou don\u2019t crash into someone else\u2019s rally.
