You might not realize it, but your Android TV (or set-top box) can take screenshots just like a phone or tablet. Unfortunately, it\u2019s not as simple, but we\u2019ll show you a method that works.<\/p>\n

Some Android TV devices, like the Nvidia Shield TV, include a built-in tool for taking screenshots. However, most don\u2019t, so you\u2019ll have to get a little more creative to take a screenshot on those devices.<\/p>\n

This method requires a paid third-party app<\/a> called \u201cButton Mapper,<\/a>\u201d which allows you to remap the actions of any button on your remote.<\/p>\n

To get it, open the Google Play Store on your Android TV, type \u201cButton Mapper\u201d in the search box, and then select the app when it appears in the results.<\/p>\n

Select \u201cInstall\u201d on the app page to download it to your device. When it\u2019s finished, select \u201cOpen\u201d to launch the app.<\/p>\n

When you launch it for the first time, the app will ask you to start the Accessibility Service. This is what allows the app to detect the buttons you\u2019re pressing; click \u201cOK.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the Settings menu that opens, scroll down, and then select \u201cDevice Preferences.\u201d<\/p>\n

Scroll down and select \u201cAccessibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

Find and select \u201cButton Mapper\u201d in the list.<\/p>\n

Toggle-On the \u201cEnable\u201d switch for Button Mapper, and then tap \u201cOK\u201d on the confirmation page.<\/p>\n

Back in the Button Mapper app, you\u2019ll see a Lock icon next to some of the buttons. These require the $4.99 in-app purchase to configure. Choose the button you want to use to take a screenshot; we selected \u201cMenu Button.\u201d<\/p>\n

Next, toggle-On the \u201cCustomize\u201d option at the top.<\/p>\n

You can then decide which button action you want to use to take a screenshot. We selected \u201cDouble Tap.\u201d<\/p>\n

Make sure \u201cActions\u201d is selected at the top of the pop-up, and then scroll down and select \u201cScreenshot.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, whenever you use the button action you specified (double-tap, in our case), it\u2019ll take a screenshot.<\/p>\n

You can find your screenshots in the Photos & Videos app that\u2019s preinstalled on your Android TV or device.<\/p>\n

To move your screenshots from the TV to another device, the best method is to upload them to cloud storage. You can do this with a file manager app, like\u00a0File Commander<\/a>. Then, you\u2019ll be able to access your screenshots anywhere.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
