In one recording, the caller can be heard saying \u201cwe\u2019re going to get you out one way or another.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Candelaria started receiving messages around 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, and contacted police at 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning after receiving several more.<\/p>\n<p>The messages were sent hours after the senator <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eared on a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a>cast criticizing a protest against COVID-19 restrictions outside the statehouse. Candelaria criticized the protesters for not wearing masks and behaving irresponsibly while COVID-19 cases continue to rise.<\/p>\n<p>In the morning, Candelaria asked his private security detail to trace the caller\u2019s phone number. The caller had \u201can extensive criminal history\u201d and an \u201copen warrant,\u201d the state Senator said.<\/p>\n<p>He later claimed police provided little assistance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe reached out for help today from our state to protect us. That help had been denied,\u201d Candelaria wrote on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe state police came to my house 13 hours later. I played these tapes, their response was to yell and my husband and I for being upset. When I asked if they thought this was a threat, they said \u2018meh, depends how you hear it.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Warning_Graphic_content\"><\/span>Warning: Graphic content<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<div class=\"embed-wrapper twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">At 12:35 am, I received this death threat. I called APD and the Mayors office, no response.  No help. 13 hours later and no law enforcement assistance. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/auMuKHGnOf\">pic.twitter.com\/auMuKHGnOf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 jacobcandelaria (@SenCandelaria) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenCandelaria\/status\/1320485359982030848?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 25, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>Candelaria then fled his home in Albuquerque citing fear for his family\u2019s safety following recent threats to politicians \u2014 such as the foiled kidnapping plot of Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no idea how I can keep my family safe right now other than leave,\u201d he said. \u201cThey do not have the right to make death threats like this and have it go unaccountable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New Mexico State Police spokesman Lt. Mark Soriano said the agency is actively handling the threats against Senator Candelaria.
