“#La\u2019Mical Perine, Denzel Mims give encouraging look at Jets future<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n Amid the stench of yet another dreadful defeat in falling to 0-7, the Jets got a glimpse of some of their future in Sunday\u2019s 18-10 loss to the Bills at MetLife Stadium.<\/p>\n

Rookie receiver Denzel Mims, the second-round draft pick who had been out with a hamstring injury since early in training camp, played his first NFL game<\/a>, catching four passes for 41 yards \u2014 all in the first half.<\/p>\n

Rookie running back La\u2019Mical Perine, a fourth-round draft pick, scored his first NFL touchdown, which also happ<\/a>ened to be the team\u2019s only touchdown of the game. His 5-yard scoring run in the second quarter gave the Jets a 10-0 lead at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmazing feeling,\u2019\u2019 the former Florida Gator said. \u201cJust being in the NFL is a blessing. But being able to score a touchdown in the NFL is even better. It\u2019s a blessing to score my first touchdown. Hopefully, I\u2019ll have many more. I would have loved to have gotten a win today, that would have felt even better.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Jets coach Adam Gase, who has been promising to increase Perine\u2019s role, liked what he saw.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what we were hoping for \u2014 give him some opportunities and see if we can get some explosive plays,\u2019\u2019 Gase said. \u201cWe\u2019re just trying to get him going as much as possible, put him in best positions possible to where he can keep growing.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Perine finished with 11 carries for 39 yards and he caught two passes for 16 yards, but he lamented that he should have produced more yardage.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish I could have got more yards to do a little more for the offense,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

Mims, who was elevated to the active roster late in the week, started and made his first NFL reception on the Jets\u2019 first offensive possession, a 5-yard catch on the sixth play.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was very excited today,\u2019\u2019 Mims said. \u201cI had a lot of energy. I was very excited to have my first catch. I had a big grin on my face.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

Mims said the speed of the pro game \u201cwas a little faster than what I\u2019m used to in college, but I adjusted quick.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cDenzel did some really good things out there for us,\u2019\u2019 quarterback Sam Darnold said. \u201cHe\u2019s a big body, fast dude who can go up and make plays, make contested catches. We\u2019re going to continue to use him in ways that provide us opportunities for that.\u2019\u2019\n <\/p><\/div>\n
