“#How to Choose a Custom Color for Your Start Menu”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Starting with the October 2020 update, Windows 10 now defaults to a light theme<\/a> that takes away accent colors from your taskbar and Start menu. If you\u2019d like to select a custom color for your Start menu, there\u2019s an easy way to pick it in Settings. Here\u2019s how.<\/p>\n

First, launch \u201cSettings\u201d by opening the \u201cStart\u201d menu and clicking the gear icon on the left. (You can also press Windows+i on your keyboard.)<\/p>\n

\"In<\/p>\n

When \u201cSettings\u201d launches, click \u201cPersonalization.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"In<\/p>\n

In \u201cPersonalization\u201d settings, click \u201cColors\u201d from the sidebar.<\/p>\n

\"In<\/p>\n

In the \u201cColors\u201d settings, locate the \u201cChoose your color\u201d drop-down menu. In the menu, select \u201cCustom.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"In<\/p>\n

Upon selecting \u201cCustom\u201d from the color menu, two new choices will appear below. Under \u201cChoose your default Windows mode,\u201d select \u201cDark.\u201d<\/p>\n

This Dark mode is required for colorizing your Start menu, but since you\u2019ve already picked the \u201cCustom\u201d color scheme, you\u2019re free to use Light mode apps if you want. So under \u201cChoose your default app mode,\u201d pick whichever option (\u201cLight\u201d or \u201cDark\u201d) you like the best.<\/p>\n

\"Under<\/p>\n

Next, scroll down the Colors page and locate the \u201cChoose your accent color\u201d section.<\/p>\n

If you want the color to automatically match your desktop background image, put a check beside \u201cAutomatically pick an accent color from my background.\u201d Otherwise, click a color in the grid that you\u2019d like to use for your Start menu and taskbar. You can also pick a custom color by clicking the \u201cCustom color\u201d button below the grid.<\/p>\n

After that, locate the \u201cShow accent color on the following surfaces\u201d section and check the box beside \u201cStart, taskbar, and action center.\u201d<\/p>\n

(If the \u201cStart, taskbar, and action center\u201d option is greyed out, make sure you select \u201cDark\u201d as your default Windows mode above. It won\u2019t work in Light mode.)<\/p>\n

\"Place<\/p>\n

The next time you open your Start menu, you\u2019ll see that it has changed to the accent color you selected.<\/p>\n

Very nice. If you ever want to switch back to the standard Windows 10 theme, open Settings > Personalization > Colors and select \u201cLight\u201d in the \u201cChoose your color\u201d drop-down menu. Have fun customizing Windows!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
