\nLately, we\u2019ve been seeing a lot of Drew Barrymore<\/strong>\u2019s goofy, exuberant side as a newly minted daytime talk show host. But she\u2019s not afraid to be honest and vulnerable, either.<\/p>\n

In an interview for Sunday Today<\/em> with Willie Geist<\/strong>, the Scream<\/em> star acknowledged that her new role requires her to be open with her audience \u2014 including about her divorce from ex Will Kopelman<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

She shared:<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think I would have been able to talk about it as openly at first, because I couldn\u2019t make sense of it. And if I even spoke about it, I would\u2019ve just become a blubbering \u2014 I really did not take divorce well. I took it really hard. Even now, I\u2019m just like, oh, it\u2019s such a painful thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It wasn\u2019t just losing her husband that made the divorce difficult, though \u2014 it was also a sense of family she\u2019d never had before. She explained:<\/p>\n

\u201cBut the good news<\/a> is, his family and I sort of made the most important choice, to be so together and united and connected. That\u2019s, I guess, what they call family. I know from not growing up with any family whatsoever that that was the last thing I wanted to do for my daughters. I think that\u2019s why I took it so hard. I was, like, oh, the ultimate promise I wanted to make with you and for you was to have this amazing family. And I found them. And there\u2019s something not working, that isn\u2019t livable. How tragic is that?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The 45-year-old married Kopelman in 2012 and had two daughters, Olive<\/strong> (8) and Frankie<\/strong> (6). The couple was divorced in 2016. She reflected:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt took me five years to be able to speak with strength, articulation, perspective, hindsight, and see everything we did right. Because when we were getting divorced, it felt like everything was just wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Through tears, the Never Been Kissed <\/em>star continued:<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it app<\/a>lies to everyone who thinks that something will be forever and it\u2019s not. It\u2019s so hard. It\u2019s like, I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve recovered from that. I don\u2019t know how to open that up again. It\u2019s like something closed, and it stayed closed. I think I\u2019m equally as scared to find love again as I would be as if it never happened.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She added:<\/p>\n

\u201cLove with a partner is just \u2014 it\u2019s still really intimidating to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Luckily, she\u2019s now in a great place and enjoying the wild ride of daytime TV. Becoming emotional again, she concluded:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s amazing that my kids and I are happy. Because there\u2019s been a lot of times I really did question, like, \u2018Will we be happy?\u2019 And we are. So that, like, chokes me up.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Wow! That\u2019s some raw honesty right there. We\u2019re so glad that Drew is happy and living her best life after everything she\u2019s been through.<\/p>\n
