\n The man who allegedly torched a ballot box in Boston has been arrested \u2014 and he doesn\u2019t app<\/a>ear to have been \u201cplotting against our democracy,\u201d prosecutors said Monday.<\/p>\n

Worldy Armand, 39, was charged with willful and malicious burning for Sunday\u2019s blaze outside the Boston public library\u2019s main branch, Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do not believe that this individual is plotting against our democracy,\u201d Rollins told reporters, according to The Boston Globe<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he is emotionally disturbed, is what I am told.\u201d<\/p>\n

Local officials, including Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, had blasted the act a \u201cdisgrace to democracy\u201d and asked the FBI to investigate.<\/p>\n

Rollins herself had described the fire as a \u201ccrime against democracy\u201d in a tweet<\/a> earlier on Monday.<\/p>\n

The top prosecutor indicated that she doesn\u2019t think the incident rises to the level of a federal crime.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf this were somebody with the facts maybe being a little bit different, there could potentially be a federal charge. We believe that this was the act of an individual that we have jurisdiction over,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

About 35 ballots were damaged in the fire, and of those, five to 10 were unreadable, Galvin told the Globe in an interview.<\/p>\n

Voters who used the ballot box between Saturday afternoon and 4 a.m. Sunday and can\u2019t confirm online<\/a> whether their ballot was processed should contact the Boston Elections Department, officials said.<\/p>\n

Those whose ballots were affected by the fire can either vote in person or by a replacement ballot that will be mailed to them. If they don\u2019t \u201ctheir original ballot will be hand-counted to the extent possible,\u201d Galvin\u2019s office said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
