“#Justice Amy Coney Barrett will be a boon to the nation<\/strong>”

\n Senate confirmation Monday of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court is a win for all of America, and couldn\u2019t come at a more critical time.<\/p>\n

Barrett\u2019s scholarship, record on the bench and confirmation testimony show she has the \u201cdeep legal expertise, dispassionate judicial temperament and sheer intellectual horsepower\u201d Americans deserve in Supreme Court justices, as Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell put it.<\/p>\n

And though Democrats opposed her, they didn\u2019t convince anyone \u2014 indeed, her public support grew throughout the process.<\/p>\n

This, in a nation beset by deep political division, with a presidential campaign adding to the flames. Ruth Bader Ginsburg\u2019s death left the court with just eight votes, raising the possibility of deadlocks, even as a wave of litigation over mail-in voting makes it more likely the court will have to decide election-related cases. As Ginsburg, a liberal hero, herself argued, \u201cEight is not a good number for a collegial body that sometimes disagrees.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ironically, Dems say the timing is wrong, that a new prez might pick someone else, so President Trump shouldn\u2019t have tapp<\/a>ed Barrett. Yet presidents since the birth of the republic have routinely named candidates for high-court vacancies in such election years.<\/p>\n

Dems\u2019 real gripe is that Barrett will stick carefully to the actual text of the Constitution and the law in her rulings, instead of stretching them to serve the left\u2019s agenda.<\/p>\n

After all, they were fine with President Barack Obama\u2019s pick, Merrick Garland, in 2016. As Ginsburg noted: A president is \u201celected for four years, not three years.\u201d She hoped senators would \u201cwake up and appreciate that that\u2019s how it should be.\u201d<\/p>\n

Democrats\u2019 only real \u201cargument\u201d was phony fearmongering about how Barrett might nix liberal priorities like ObamaCare and Roe v. Wade. Yet she\u2019s given no sign she\u2019d do any such thing \u2014 only that she\u2019d rule on the facts and the law. Amid the political turmoil, that\u2019s reassuring.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
