select cardholders through a partnership with Uber<br \/>\n        UBER,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/211348248\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-3.42%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       in an effort to keep existing customers h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>y as the pandemic cancels people\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a> plans.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       Beginning this week, people who have the American Express Platinum, Gold and Green cards in the U.S. will have access to a complimentary Eats Pass membership with Uber Eats. The 12-month membership offers unlimited fee-free deliveries from restaurants, 5% off restaurant orders and free deliveries for grocery orders over $30 in select markets.<\/p>\n<p> The Uber Eats membership typically costs $12 a month, and card members must enroll by Dec. 31 of next year to take advantage of the offer.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, starting in 2021, Amex Gold Card members will be given up to $120 a year (or $10 a month) in Uber Cash, which they can use for Uber Eats orders or rides. That\u2019s in addition to the card\u2019s existing benefits, which include a $120 annual dining credit. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Also see:<\/strong> Venmo\u2019s new credit card has personalized rewards \u2014 it could affect perks across the industry<\/p>\n<p>Platinum members already received $200 in Uber Cash before<br \/>\nthis week\u2019s announcement, while Gold and Green card holders received membership<br \/>\nrewards points at restaurants, including takeout and delivery. <\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t the first change Amex has made to its rewards<br \/>\nofferings since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Back in May, the company announced<br \/>\nnew offerings for certain cards including $320 in statement credits for<br \/>\nstreaming and wireless bills for Platinum card holders. All American Express<br \/>\ncard holders were also given complimentary access to a one-year premium<br \/>\nmembership with the wellness app Calm, which is available through Oct. 31.<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_pandemic_has_changed_what_people_want_out_of_their_rewards_cards\"><\/span>The pandemic has changed what people want out of their rewards cards<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>The latest additions to Amex\u2019s rewards line-up highlight how consumers\u2019 tastes are shifting as the pandemic has dragged on. Many of the top-tier rewards cards \u2014 which come with steep annual fees \u2014 historically have been oriented toward travel and entertainment. But many of those benefits have gone by the wayside as a result of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBack in the spring, it felt like everyone was piling into groceries as the top rewards category,\u201d said Ted Rossman, industry analyst at CreditCards.com. \u201cAs the situation has evolved, we\u2019re now seeing more perks around experiences and memberships.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>Similar to the perks Amex has added through Uber, earlier this year Chase<br \/>\n        JPM,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205971034\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-2.47%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       added $120 in credits for DoorDash purchases over 2020 and 2021, plus $50 in statement credits toward yearly or monthly Instacart memberships. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rather than being designed to attract new members, these<br \/>\nchanges seem aimed at existing card holders who could be using the pandemic as<br \/>\nan opportunity to reconsider what\u2019s in their wallets, experts said.\u00a0 \u201cFor months, we\u2019ve seen credit card companies<br \/>\nmake substantial changes to their rewards programs so they can stay relevant,\u201d<br \/>\nsaid Sara Rathner, credit card expert at personal finance website NerdWallet. \u201cThe<br \/>\nmoment a card doesn\u2019t meet their needs is the moment they begin to look for<br \/>\nsomething new and exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_new_Uber-related_perks_wont_benefit_all_card_holders_equally\"><\/span>The new Uber-related perks won\u2019t benefit all card holders equally<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>Overall, the new benefits from Uber are something of a<br \/>\nstop-gap measure. \u201cIt\u2019s worth noting that Amex\u2019s Eats Pass membership only<br \/>\nlasts a year, so it\u2019s not like it\u2019s going to last you the lifespan of the Amex<br \/>\ncredit card account,\u201d said Nathan Grant, senior credit industry analyst at<br \/>\nCredit Card Insider.<\/p>\n<p>Some Amex members stand to benefit more than others from the new perks, experts said. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more:<\/strong> \u2018It\u2019s daunting to think about what the consequences will be.\u2019 With no stimulus deal, much of America\u2019s temporary financial safety net will expire Dec. 31<\/p>\n<p>The Green Card, in particular, was oriented toward travel, transit and dining before the pandemic, Rossman said. The card comes with a $150 annual fee \u2014 but among its perks are $100 annual credits for airport security program CLEAR and airport lounge program LoungeBuddy. \u201cIf you\u2019re a Green card member who uses Uber Eats a lot, the free Eats Pass membership can essentially pay for itself,\u201d Rossman said.<\/p>\n<p>For the Gold and Platinum cards, the expanded benefits may not move the needle much, Rossman continued. The Gold Card already had the $120 dining credit, which worked with Grubhub<br \/>\n        GRUB,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210404212\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-2.74%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       and Seamless.
