\n The first full trailer for the upcoming Netflix biographical program \u201cSelena: The Series\u201d is a wistful celebration of a star on the rise.<\/p>\n

The show tells the coming-of-age story of beloved singer Selena Quintanilla \u2014 played by Christian Serratos (\u201cThe Walking Dead,\u201d \u201cTwilight\u201d) \u2014 whose life is filled with \u201cheart-wrenching and life-changing sacrifices she and her family make as they navigate the highs and lows of success, loss, love and music,\u201d according to the show\u2019s official descript<\/a>ion.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you stand around and wait for what you want, you\u2019re gonna be waiting your whole life,\u201d a young Selena is told in a voice-over. \u201cYou have to go and get it.\u201d<\/p>\n

In her short life, Texas native Selena went on to find big success as the \u201cQueen of Tejano music\u201d<\/a> before she was shockingly murdered<\/a> by her fan club president and former boutique clothing manager Yolanda Saldivar on March 31, 1995, at age 23. She was the top-selling Latin artist of the 1990s, according to Billboard magazine, which inducted her<\/a> into its Latin Music Hall of Fame in 1995.<\/p>\n

The two-part show, created by\u00a0executive producer Mois\u00e9s Zamora, also stars Gabriel Chavarria, Ricardo Chavira, Noem\u00ed Gonzalez and Seidy L\u00f3pez. \u201cSelena: The Series\u201d will premiere Dec. 4 on Netflix.<\/p>\n
