\n The White House is \u201crevisiting\u201d the possible renaming of 10 US military bases that honor Confederate leaders, according to a report.<\/p>\n

Three senior administration officials told NBC News<\/a> that White House aides are \u201crevisiting the idea\u201d despite President Trump denouncing the possibility.<\/p>\n

One official told NBC: \u201cIt\u2019s a foregone conclusion that the bases will be renamed, so why not try to influence who they\u2019re named after?\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump vehemently rejected an effort to rename bases such as North Carolina\u2019s Fort Bragg in the wake of national anti-racism protests over the killing of George Floyd by Minnesota police<\/p>\n

But some Republican senators defied Trump and voted to move forward\u00a0anyway on renaming bases.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear how serious discussions are within the White House, however. A senior administration official told The Post that NBC News\u2019 report is inaccurate.<\/p>\n

White House spokespeople did not immedia<\/a>tely respond to The Post\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n

Opponents of renaming the bases reportedly include White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, a former North Carolina congressman.<\/p>\n

At a press briefing last week, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany read aloud a statement from Trump, who said: \u201cThese monumental and very powerful bases have become part of a great American heritage and a history of winning, victory, and freedom. The United States of America trained and deployed our heroes [here]\u2026and won two world wars. Therefore, my administration will not even consider the renaming of these magnificent and fabled military installations.\u00a0 Our history, as the greatest nation in the world, will not be tampered with. Respect our military!\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
