“#Twitter<\/a> is running a blackmail operation \u2014 cooperate or no traffic for you<\/strong>”

\n For all their talk of \u201cneutral platforms,\u201d the Big Shots at Big Tech \u2014 Twitter, Facebook and Google \u2014 are running a protection racket. They figure they can dictate what Americans get to see and read, and what other media companies must do to reach the public via those platforms.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a clear threat to a healthy democracy \u2014 and Congress has noticed. On Wednesday, the Senate launched a hearing to investigate \u201cBig Tech\u2019s bad behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n

Center-stage: Twitter\u2019s strong-arm tactics to censor The Post ever since we began reporting on Hunter Biden\u2019s e-mails. First, it froze our account and banned our stories; then, amid a public backlash, it agreed to unfreeze us \u2014 but only if we deleted our original tweets.<\/p>\n

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey sounded like every mob enforcer and shakedown artist in history: Nice paper you got there, New York Post. Shame, should something happ<\/a>en to it. He knows full well media outlets depend on social media, and Google search algorithms, to help readers access our reporting.<\/p>\n

Sen. Ted Cruz wasn\u2019t fooled: \u201cMr. Dorsey, who the hell elected you and put you in charge of what the media are allowed to report, and what the American people are allowed to hear?\u201d he thundered. \u201cWhy do you persist in behaving as a Democratic super PAC, silencing views to the contrary of your political beliefs?\u201d<\/p>\n

Dorsey tried to claim it was all a mistake that had been fixed, but The Post account remained locked, even as he spoke.<\/p>\n

\u201cCan the New York Post post on their Twitter account?\u201d Cruz asked.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they go into their account .\u2009.\u2009. \u201d squirmed Dorsey, before Cruz cut him off.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, is your answer to that,\u201d fumed Cruz, \u201cunless they genuflect and agree with your dictates.\u201d<\/p>\n

Besides, if it was an honest error, then why do they only happen to one side? As Sen. Marsha Blackburn noted, Twitter has \u201ccensored\u201d President Trump 65 times and Joe Biden zero. \u201cThere is a pattern of subjective manipulation of information.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nor can Twitter and Facebook, which also moved to suppress The Post\u2019s reporting, claim there\u2019s anything wrong with the stories. Asked if they had any \u201cevidence\u201d of that, Dorsey and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg both admitted they didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n

Some folks think the paper should\u2019ve just caved immediately and deleted the story. Yet the problem isn\u2019t The Post\u2019s failure to squelch stories \u2014 it\u2019s Big Tech\u2019s heavy-handed shakedown.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
