MCU Spider-Man 3 Location May Hint At Villain, Filming Starts This Summer -BB

The MCU’s Spider-Man 3 will reportedly start filming this summer, shooting in locations that include Iceland, which may hint at the movie’s villain. Tom Holland’s Peter Parker aka Spider-Man joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016 and has since become a key superhero of the franchise. Not only has he appeared in three team-up movies, he’s lead two solo films of his own – Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Last summer, a new deal was reached between Marvel and Sony and Spider-Man will remain in the MCU for one more solo movie, Spider-Man 3, and another team-up film.

Little is known about the MCU’s Spider-Man 3, though it has a release date in July 2021. Homecoming and Far From Home director Jon Watts will return in addition to Holland. Co-stars Jacob Batalon and Zendaya, who play Ned Leeds and Michelle ‚MJ‘ Jones respectively, are also expected to return, but haven’t been confirmed just yet. It’s expected that the third film will follow on from the Spider-Man: Far From Home post-credits scenes, which featured J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons), revealing Peter’s secret identity and reporting that Spidey murdered Mysterio. Now, with a year and a half until the movie’s set to hit theaters, pre-production is ramping up on the next Spider-Man movie.

Today, ComicBook reports the MCU’s Spider-Man 3 will start filming in July and conclude in November, with the production heading to Atlanta, Georgia; New York, New York; Los Angeles, California and Iceland. ComicBook further notes this won’t be the first MCU movie to film in Iceland, as Thor: The Dark World previously shot some scenes in the country. The publication also posits the Iceland location could be a hint that Kraven the Hunter will be the villain of the film.

Atlanta and New York locations don’t come as a surprise for Spider-Man 3, since Far From Home filmed in both locales. In fact, the Far From Home post-credits scene was filmed in New York City, and it’s where Peter Parker lives in the MCU, so it makes sense for the follow-up to film there as well. Iceland is the most interesting filming location, and does seem to indicate Peter Parker will be traveling outside the United States once again. Perhaps Peter travels to this location as part of a plot in the Spider-Man movie that includes Kraven the Hunter. The Marvel villain is a big game hunter and one of Spider-Man’s comic book foes.

After the Far From Home post-credits scenes outed Peter Parker’s identity as Spider-Man, fans have speculated that Spider-Man 3 would include Kraven and/or feature some kind of adaptation of the „Kraven’s Last Hunt“ storyline. In fact, Watts even supported the idea of Kraven the Hunter in Spider-Man 3, though it’s unclear whether the director has any real plans for the villain.

While the Iceland filming location may tease Kraven the Hunter’s inclusion, it could be related to a different villain or storyline.  With filming set to start this summer, it shouldn’t be too long before casting gets underway and more will be revealed from set photos that are bound to surface once production begins. So fans excited for Spidey’s next outing can look forward to more Spider-Man 3 updates in the coming months.
