Rent-A-Girlfriend (known as Kanojo, Okarishimasu in Japan), an upcoming TV anime based on the romantic comedy manga by Reiji Miyajima about a college student who stumbles into romance when he discovers a rental service offering pretend friends, family members, and significant others, is also offering up some toll-free thrills with a hotline featuring in-character messages from some of the ladies in the cast.
Beginning on January 08, 2020, by dialing the „KanoKariCall“ hotline at 0800-222-7124 (which reads phonetically in Japanese as „hee hee hee, it’s a secret!“), fans in Japan can hear a pre-recorded message from Mami Nanami (CV: Aoi Yūki), the ex-girlfriend of the main character in Rent-A-Girlfriend. There’s also a special message from Mami that can only be accessed at midnight local time. Previously, the hotline featured messages from Chizuru Mizuhara (CV: Sora Amamiya), the female romantic lead.
Please note, while the hotline is toll-free in Japan, international call rates would still apply for fans calling from outside the country. The hotline has racked up more than 34,000 calls since it was published on December 15, 2029, so getting through may also be challenging.
The original Kanojo, Okarishimasu manga is serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine, and an English language version is currently in-development from Kodansha Comics under the title Rent-A-Girlfriend, and they describe the series as follows:
In Japan, the lonely have a new way out — online services that rent out dads, children, even girlfriends! When Kazuya’s true love dumps him, he’s just desperate enough to try it, and he’s shocked at how cute and sweet his rental girlfriend turns out to be. But she wants to keep their „relationship“ a secret, and there’s a complication… she goes to his university… and their grandmothers are in the same home… and they live next door to each other?! And Kazuya finds out she’s not nearly as nice in „real life“…
Rent-A-Girlfriend is directed by Kazuomi Koga and features animation production by TMS Entertainment. The series will broadcast in Japan beginning in July of 2020.
