„Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: 10 Couples That Would Have Made Sense (But Never Got Together)“

As Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. comes to a close, fans look back on the drama that made the show work. Some of that drama originates from separated love interests to couples that should never have been. While romantic relationships don’t make the show what it is, they sure add a fun element to the series.

But there are certain pairings that fans wonder what could have happened if they ever got together. Some relationships are better left alone while others have the potential to create a rich dynamic. Here are 10 couples that would have made sense, but never got together.

10 Hunter and May

This may seem like an odd couple, but there was potential for at least a hot fling between the serious Melinda May and sarcastic Lance Hunter. Both characters enjoyed a good brawl and had some anger issues that gave them an interesting dynamic.

On missions, May often needed to stop Hunter from overstepping his bounds, causing some tension. Their constant need to size up one another could have led to a steamy hate-to-love passion. Hunter also obviously appreciated strong women, as proven by his relationship with Bobbi Morse.

9 Isabelle Hartley and Victoria Hand

Isabelle Hartley didn’t appear too often on the show before her untimely death, but her time spent there proved she remained loyal to S.H.I.E.L.D. even after its disintegration with the revelation of HYDRA’s infiltration. Victoria Hand, a high-level agent who preferred things done by the book, also put her loyalty to S.H.I.E.L.D. above all.

Victoria may not have been very popular, but she always stayed true to the organization’s mission, as did Isabelle. Of course, there’s also the fact that in the comics Isabelle and Victoria had a romantic relationship that would have made it perfect.

8 Piper and Davis

These agents recurred as supporting characters to supplement the dynamic between the main cast. Agents Piper and Davis had an easy camaraderie as long-time field partners that made them comfortable with teasing each other. Sometimes they spent so much time together they bickered like a married couple.

Before Davis‘ untimely death at the hands of Izel, he and Piper could have made a good romantic couple. The foundations for such a pairing were already there. Piper’s devastation at his death proved she already had strong feelings for him.

7 Daisy and Fitz

It’s hard to imagine Leopold Fitz with anyone other than Jemma Simmons, but hear this one out. When Daisy first joined S.H.I.E.L.D. under the name Skye, there were moments where the adorable Fitz appeared to have a crush on her. Skye’s friendly demeanor showed potential for some kind of relationship to bloom between them.

Later, when Daisy first transformed into her Inhuman self, Fitz was the friend closest to her and who understood her struggle the best. The two agents worked well as friends, but a romance wasn’t farfetched.

6 Grant Ward and Raina

Even bad guys found time for love. While Ward may have had his sights set on Skye, Raina could have proven a decent partner for him. Both were conniving and manipulative, making them the perfect pair. But they both shared another common trait: faith in the wrong person.

Ward and Raina were both used and controlled by John Garrett. Both realized Garrett was not the man they thought he was. Raina and Ward also sought redemption in their own ways. This connection could have brought them together.

5 Daisy and Robbie Reyes

When Daisy encountered the Ghost Rider, their standoff showed they were equally powerful beings capable of great destruction. But when she met Robbie Reyes, the man behind Ghost Rider, she realized they were on the same team.

Both characters had a certain darkness inside them that made them feel isolated from their peers. That kind of understanding could have created a connection that led to a relationship between the two. Although they each believed themselves to be damned, they still fought for what was right, making them a good team.

4 Antoine Triplett and Simmons

Trip worked with Garrett until he found out his affiliation with HYDRA. Turning to work with Coulson’s team, Trip created a rapport with Agent Simmons. The two often flirted and Simmons was frequently nervous around him. But the two shared a moment in the trenches before Trip became part of Coulson’s team.

When HYDRA made its presence known, Trip found Simmons at the Hub, nearly wounding her as he thought her the enemy. But Simmons convinced Trip she could be trusted. That kind of friendship forged in a fire could have led to a romance.

3 Maria Hill and Phil Coulson

Agent Maria Hill appeared mostly in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but she showed up a handful of times on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. She kept a close friendship with the former director Nick Fury. As Fury’s protege, Coulson made a logical choice for friendship as well.

The two didn’t spend a great deal of screen time together, but given the chance, they could have been a sassy duo. Under the right circumstances, Maria and Coulson could have made a good pair. But that would have meant no Philinda, the fandom name for Phil and Melinda May.

2 Elena Rodriguez and Mike Peterson

The Inhuman known as Yo-Yo and HYDRA experiment known as Deathlok would get along great as a couple. Both characters know what it’s like moving through life with cybernetic parts. Yo-Yo’s arms come from a past fight against Ruby Hale that went terribly wrong. Mike’s cyborg body parts come courtesy of John Garrett’s meddling with human subjects.

But while the two may have tough exteriors, they have soft hearts. They both care deeply about their loved ones and protecting people. This makes them a compassionate team that could have been a great pair.

1 Daisy and Mack

Mack may be with Elena, but his chemistry with Daisy is undeniable. Moments like the two playing video games together in S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters give fans great joy. Daisy is afraid at first of her Inhuman side, but Mack assures her it’s part of who she is and that he’s on her side, even giving her the nickname Tremors.

When Daisy gets taken over by Hive, Mack fights tooth and nail to bring her back. That kind of friendship is prime material for a romance to bloom.
