MonsterVerse Already Has The Key Element Needed To Build Mechagodzilla -BB

The giant skeleton in 2014’s Godzilla could be the key to Mechagodzilla’s creation in Godzilla vs. Kong. Though it’s not been made official, Mechagodzilla is expected to appear in Godzilla vs. Kong, thanks to a leak from a toy convention in Hong Kong. An action figure with an updated design of Mechagodzilla points to the robotic kaiju making his MonsterVerse debut in 2020.

For decades, Godzilla’s two greatest enemies have been King Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla. Godzilla has taken on most his adversaries no more than once or twice, but King Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla are recurring villains who have appeared in numerous films. Godzilla has fought Ghidorah in six Toho films, and Mechagodzilla in five. Legendary’s MonsterVerse tackled King Ghidorah in 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and now it seems that it’s Mechagodzilla’s turn. As if Godzilla won’t already have his hands full with the King of Skull Island in Godzilla vs. Kong, the movie is seemingly adding one more kaiju to the mix. Mechagodzilla will be Legendary’s fifth Toho property in the MonsterVerse.

One of the biggest mysteries surrounding Mechagodzilla’s entry into the MonsterVerse is how he’ll be introduced. One possibility hinges on a scene at the beginning of 2014’s Godzilla. Prior to Godzilla’s emergence, Monarch scientists were seen exploring a giant skeleton in the Philippines who was said to be older than Godzilla himself. It was confirmed by an image in the credits that the skeleton is „Adam“, one of Godzilla’s ancestors. The skeleton shares the same bone structure as Godzilla. What – if any – use Monarch has for the skeleton has other than research purposes hasn’t been explored since, but it’s possible that the skeleton is key to the birth of Mechagodzilla.

In 2001’s Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, the Japanese military use the skeleton of the Godzilla that was killed in 1954 to construct a mechanical replica of kaiju. Using cloned DNA taken from his bones and having his bone structure act as a framework, the Japanese are able to create „Kiryu“, the movie’s version of Mechagodzilla. A similar method could be employed in the MonsterVerse.

As for who may be responsible for his creation, Monarch could be the ones behind it. Based on a line in the Godzilla: King of the Monsters credits about a „mechanized giant“ on Skull Island, it would appear that Mechagodzilla will be built by Monarch, possibly as a secret weapon to be used against the Titans. To achieve this end, Monarch may send their scientists to extract DNA from the skeleton of „Adam“ and begin work on creating a replica. „Adam“ may very well be the key to creating Mechagodzilla.

In fact, „Adam“ may be the only way Mechagodzilla can be created. How can anyone build a robot Godzilla without having a complete understanding of his bone structure and anatomy? Without Godzilla’s body to study, it would be an impossible task to pull off – unless, of course, they already have something to work with. The skeleton from the 2014 movie could hold all the answers they’ll need. If this is the direction the MonsterVerse takes, Godzilla vs. Kong may see Godzilla go up against an enemy who’s not just based of him, but is a perfect, robotic duplicate of Godzilla’s own ancestor.
