Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made Movie Trailer Adapts Children’s Books To Disney+

The Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made trailer is released for the upcoming Disney+ movie. The new film will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival later this month, before making its official release on Disney’s streaming service next month.

Written by acclaimed children’s author Stephan Pastis, the Timmy Failure series was initially published in 2013. The first book in the series, Mistakes Were Made, introduced the character of Timmy Failure, a precocious 11-year-old boy who runs his own detective agency known as Total Failure Inc. Imaginative and adventurous, young Timmy delves into the great mysteries in his hometown of Portland, Oregon, alongside his imaginary partner – a 1,500 pound polar bear called Total. In addition to the help of Total, Timmy also often enlists the aid of his best friend, Rollo Tookus. After the first book in the series found success, Pastis went on to write six more Timmy Failure books, all of which have been very well received. The series was popular enough to catch the eye of Disney executives, ensuring that if Mistakes Were Made finds sufficient success as a film, plenty more stories remain to be adapted.

With only a matter of weeks remaining before Mistakes Were Made premieres in the “Kids” section of the prestigious Sundance Film Festival, the time is right for the film’s first full length trailer. You can check it out below, courtesy of Disney. In addition to the trailer and confirmation that the film will screen at Sundance, we also know that Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made will officially begin streaming on Disney+ as of February 7.

While it might be tempting for some to write off Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made as just another family friendly Disney film, there happens to some real filmmaking talent behind it. Co-written and directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Tom McCarthy, whose past credits include Spotlight and the 2003 Sundance favourite The Station Agent (which helped launch the career of Peter Dinklage), Mistakes Were Made is also produced by the same creative team who helped make 2015’s Spotlight the hugely acclaimed hit that it was. Judging by this first trailer for Mistakes Were Made, it maintains many of the classic elements that have always made up Disney films: adventure, humor, and of course, just the right amount of sentimentality.

It may not be for everyone, but it appears that Disney is keeping its streaming service offerings strong with this upcoming release. Kicking off things at Sundance with an Oscar-winning director at the helm is one way to ensure the critics and the public alike take immediate notice of the service’s original content. And while some critics of Disney+ have been quick to point out that with the recent end of The Mandalorian’s first season there isn’t much of note left to entice subscribers, as long as Disney can continue to provide quality programming for their intended family demographic, there shouldn’t be much to worry about. At the same time, however, it’s still far too early to know how Timmy Failure: istakes Were Made will fare – regardless of the proven track record of its filmmaker.
