New Elder Scrolls Online Greymoor Chapter Returns To Skyrim's Blackreach -BB

ZeniMax announced a new chapter for The Elder Scrolls Online entitled Greymoor, which brings Western Skyrim and Blackreach to the MMORPG among several other new features this June. Much like the mainline Bethesda-developed titles like 2011’s Skyrim and 2006’s Oblivion, The Elder Scrolls Online has players create their own adventurer to travel across the continent of Tamriel, complete quests, and fight monsters, this time with the ability to play online with friends, create and join guilds, and many other features common to massively multiplayer online games such as World of Warcraft.

Announced in front of a live audience and streamed on Twitch, Greymoor is the latest in ESO’s year-long chapter DLCs, following last year’s acclaimed Elsweyr expansion, along with Summerset and Morrowind before that. These chapters are distinguished from smaller expansions to the role-playing game, such as the Dark Brotherhood DLC, in that they unlock expansive regions of Tamriel along with a host of gameplay additions, quests, characters, items, player houses, and more.

According to a post on the game’s official websiteGreymoor will bring Elder Scrolls Online players to Western Skyrim, which holds cities such as Solitude and Whiterun. Previously, the eastern regions of Eastmarch and The Rift were all that ESO players got of Skyrim, the location of the most recent and popular Elder Scrolls game which is still beloved today. Greymoor also boasts Blackreach, a location seen in Skyrim‘s Dawnguard expansion, which is home to the dreaded vampire lord. This new chapter will also bring a new Antiquities mechanic to the game, which has players discovering lost artifacts and excavating rare relics to „uncover Tamriel’s hidden history.“ Other notable features include new 12-player trials, six new armor sets, and supernatural „Harrowstorms“ that require cooperation from players in the world to be shut down „before the very soul of Skyrim is lost.

Like past chapters for Elder Scrolls OnlineGreymoor is part of a year-long story told through the chapter itself and smaller DLCs released throughout the year. 2020’s campaign, known as the Dark Heart of Skyrim, begins in March with arrival of the Harrowstorm dungeon DLC. The events of Harrowstorm will continue into the June arrival of Greymoor, which in turned will be followed-up by an as-of-yet unannounced dungeon DLC coming in August and a story DLC in September.

Large updates like Greymoor have become a yearly tradition for The Elder Scrolls Online, a testament to its continued improvement after a very rocky launch back in 2014. This new update will allow players to explore Skyrim almost a millennium before the events of the smash hit Elder Scrolls V, which should interest long-time veterans of the series and newcomers alike. After the lackluster performance and eventual hiatus of their free-to-play card game Elder Scrolls: Legends, and their over-saturation of other free-to-play titles that are disappointing some fans, new interest and an increased player count for The Elder Scrolls Online would do wonders for Bethesda and parent company ZeniMax.
