Yama no Susume (Encouragement of Climb), the slice-of-life anime series about mountain climbing, is getting a new continuation called Yama no Susume: Next Summit.
Returning director Yuusuke Yamamoto teased that New Summit will have new characters and sceneries and will feature protagonist Aoi and her friends as second-year high school students.
New Summit will see Yuusuke Matsuo returning as character designer and Eight Bit in charge of the animation production once again.

The cast from previous seasons of Yama no Susume are also returning, with Yuka Iguchi voicing Aoi, Kana Asumi voicing Hinata, Youko Hikasa voicing Kaede, Yui Ogura voicing Kokona, and Nao Touyama voicing Honoka.
New Summit is based on the Yama no Susume manga series by Shiro, which began in 2012 and released its 19th volume in October 2020. Prior to New Summit, the manga received three anime seasons and several OVA episodes.
Crunchyroll describes the series as:
Aoi prefers indoor hobbies and is afraid of heights, but her childhood friend Hinata loves to show off her passion for mountain climbing. As young children they once watched the sunrise from the top of a mountain, and now they’ve decided to take up mountain climbing in hopes of seeing that sunrise again. They have cooking battles with mountaineering gear, climb small hills in their neighborhood, and meet new mountaineering friends as they learn the ropes of the hobby. When will they finally see that sunrise again?
