The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 WORLD CUP anime has been announced for 2022. The first The Prince of Tennis II TV anime since 2012, it will take place after the events of the 2014 OVA The Prince of Tennis II OVA vs Genius10.
The staff includes Keiichiro Kawaguchi (Higurashi: When They Cry – GOU, : When They Cry – Sotsu) as director, Akiharu Ishii (Noblesse) as character designer and chief animation director, Mitsutaka Hirota (EDENS ZERO) as series composer, Yūko Tsumori (2.43: Seiin High School Boys Volleyball Team) as color designer, Studio ARA’s Akira Itō (Lord El-Melloi II’s Case Files {Rail Zeppelin} Grace note) as art director, Yūta Nakamura (My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Climax!) as photography director, and Chihiro Tamaki (Ongaku Shoujo) as music composer. Studio KAI M.S.C is the animation production studio.
Meanwhile, the cast includes Junko Minagawa as Ryōma Echizen, Ryōtarō Okiayu as Kunimitsu Tezuka, Hiroki Yasumoto as Hōō Byōdōin, Junichi Suwabe as Keigo Atobe, Sachiko Nagai as Seiichi Yukimura, Yoshimasa Hosoya as Kuranosuke Iraishi, Tarusuke Shingaki as Kite Eishirō, and Mamoru Miyano as Ryōga Echizen.
The Prince of Tennis manga series by Takeshi Konomi began in 1999, while the sequel The Prince of Tennis II (The New Prince of Tennis in Japan) begin in 2009 and is still ongoing with 34 tankōbon volumes as of September 2021.
The manga series has spawned multiple anime series, OVAs, and movies, with the first Prince of Tennis TV anime running from 2001 to 2007. A CG movie titled Ryouma! The Prince of Tennis Shinsei Gekijouban Tennis no Oujisama was released on September 3 in Japan.
